Retraction and Apology
A comedy conversation by Professor Nutbutter 181,255 35
12/10/2002 01:00 PM 202 views

I was shown evidence by Codeslave in the form of IP addresses that a certain person posted to HoB using a false name. There was reason for Tim to believe, both based on the IP address and the nature of the post, that the false name was me. This was not the case. Upon further investigation by Tim it was made clear that it could not have been me. While the ISP in question (as well as the IP address) was the same as the one I use, the business the other IP address was traced back to was not the place where I work. It was the business where another Gabber is known to work.

This of course assumes the evidence I was shown is actual evidence, and not fabricated.

While I did not come out and name names, I dropped enough hints and made it obvious enough who I thought the guilty party was. Enough people knew who I was talking about. Yes, I was pointing the finger at John Hargrave.

I have spoken to him and he denies any involvement whatsoever.

I apologize for jumping to conclusions based on evidence presented by one person.

For years I have been guilty of getting caught up in the drama of this board. Sometimes it's been fun, sometimes frustrating.

Now, I'm caught up in a personal issue between two people, two people that are somewhat high up on the Gab/HoB hierarchy. I was dragged into it by one party even though I never asked to be.

One of these things is true: One person is trying to use me to drag down another person, that other person is lying to me, or somehow there is another party involved that is trying to Frost everyone over. I have no idea what the motive for any of these things would be.

This crosses my own personal line of "Shakespeare I Need In My Life."

I no longer care which one is the truth. It is between the two parties to settle.

It's my own fault. I should have dropped the issue at the first email. I felt like I was doing The Right Thing by calling people on what I felt was hypocracy. For that I am truly sorry.

I now feel like I've farted in front of my father-in-law and can no longer show my face around his house. This will be my last post to Gab or HoB unless this issue is somehow cleared up.

You know, I was thinking about this silliness today while working with a bunch of 5 and 6 year olds.

If it had been John, perhaps there was a reason. Remember when GAB was down last week? I thought maybe someone from HoB fiddled and played (I'M NOT SAYING TIM!), and John got fussy and fiddled and played over there.

That's all I'm saying.

Well, that and I ate the porridge off of the bottom of the microwave.

For this, I'm ashamed.

Ok, for the most part I tried to stay out of posting on this issue but I feel compelled to do so now.

I know how it feels to be personally attacked on a message board (it's true, it's true) so I can totally feel your pain and frustration Nutbuttah.

However, unless the guilty party responsible comes clean (like an intelligent adult would) then it's going to be an issue of he said/she said and might never get resolved.

I think that you're not the only one who would like to not have this Shakespeare in your life, but don't stop posting because of it.

If you do that, the imposter has already won.

The real person to blame for this retardedness is Tim. If Nutbutter, John, or just some random goof wrote that post, it doesn't matter, because it was just one stupid post. Tim is the one that has skin the thickness of tissue paper. Tim is the one who went through the IP info. Tim is the one that started blaming people for the post and blowing it out of proportion like a 6th grade drama queen. Tim is the dingo that ate my baby. Tim killed JFK. Tim payed alot for his muffler.

He doesn't. I hate to use a cliche but one bad egg doesn't spoil the dozen or some such Shakespeare. Basically, just because some assrimmer decides to go on a vigilante run against Nutbuttah doesn't mean that he should leave.

My feelings are that some people who have yet to be named just couldn't take the heat. Whether it was generated in jest or seriously.

Instead of addressing his/her insecurities online (where most things have and should be discussed when having to do with an issue regarding a poster) they had to be a yellow bellied pissant and try to corrupt someone elses reputation and account to show his/her displeasure.

Dammit, if a man says he didn't do something, he should usually be believed unless he is a regular crimial type. That goes for both Jim and John.

When Nutter said he didn't do it, he should have been believed by Tim. When John said he didn't do it, he should have been believed by Jim.

Petty tantrum "quittings" at this point are Frost-ing embarrassing, much more so than all the other crap.

it was a thread and two posts started by "codeslave's psychiatrist". the first post asked if his birthday would be posted along with everyone else's, but he didn't state the actual date of his birthday.

the second post, just under that one, added something about a recent session he and codeslave had had and alluded to some medication codeslave was on. nothing out of the ordinary for what gets said on either board (making fun of each other's shortcomings, etc.), and why codeslave got so irked and accused nutbutter is beyond me.

Nope. I'm not. And do you know WHY I'm not curious? Because I did it. Yep, it was definitely all me. I'm taking all the blame for this. Go ahead-- let it all out on me. I want to be your emotional punching bag.

I DID IT, PEOPLE.

I didn't realize it would cause this much trouble. I thought it was just a funny joke. I guess it wasn't. But I'm ready to accept what you all have to dish out. Let me have it, because I admit it-- I'm am Codie's Shrink.

Of course you don't. It's because I didn't do it. I'm just taking the blame. But did someone admitting they did it and that they were wrong change things? Is everything all better now? Are things just going to go back to the way they used to be?

OF COURSE NOT.

So just. Let. It. Go. Already. Yeah, it would be nice to see who caused all this, but that's only to satisfy our curiosity. Ripping the guy a new Emerson won't solve the problems he/she solved.

Onion: It pisses me off when people I like get all pissy and say, that's it, I quit if I can't have my way. I think that is a very immature attitude to take in the land of the thick skinned.

The very key to surviving n00bism here is having thick enough skin to take the barbs that will come your way and keep tossing them back.

did you read his explanation of the events? he said he left because he feels he's being dragged into something that has nothing to do with him. who needs that in their life? he made the choice to leave because someone isn't being honest here and trying to generate comedy when you're wondering who's lying to you is just not on his top ten list of things to do before the cancer on his face spreads.

i'll recap for you:

"I was dragged into something I want nothing to do with and, as I said, it crossed my personal line of what I will put up with, which is why I think I want to rid myself of all this."

no feelings were hurt. i'd get pretty fed up if this happened to me. i can't imagine you'd like it much, either. why you always see this kind of thing as someone "whining" or "taking their toys and running home" is a mystery to me. people have a bazillion reasons for leaving other than not having a thick enough skin and this situation certainly isn't an exception.

Holy Shakespeare on a stick! Ok, listen while I totally understand how Nutbutter feels - I don't see the purpose of you (onion) trying to defend his actions to the board. He's a big boy and he can do that himself if he so chooses.

I came close to leaving several times too. Even went so far as to have my pictures removed from the album in preperation for my mass exodus.

While my situation and reasons have been different, there comes a time when you just have to weigh the pros and cons and then suck it up or move on. As one of the original members of this forum, I'd like to think that Nutbutter would think twice and eventually come back to the fold.

I don't think that much of what anyone has to say will make a dent in his decision, since it is one he needs to make for himself. He is extremely lucky to have friends (off and on) the board such as yourself (onion).

My impression is not that Nutbutter left because he didn't get his way. I thought he made it clear that he was leaving because:

1) He got dragged into the middle of a Shakespearestorm that he had not caused in any way and the persons who had caused said storm were to cowardly to step up. and

2) It bothered him that the whole drama was bothering him.

It seems to me that he is just stepping back to gain some perspective. Yes, they are just message boards, but every once in a while it feels personal (whether on a good level or bad). I don't think he is to be derided for stepping away. I hope he returns but will not think less of him if he doesn't.

</my 2 cents worth - YMMV>
