Goodbye to you all
A comedy conversation by I'm Leppy, and I'm a GABaholic. 12,056 12
02/05/2003 12:19 AM 250 views

Got the word tonight. Thursday is my last day with the civilian world. Friday I start full active duty, monday is sendoff. Sometime around the end of next week I will be in Kuwait training up to fight the good fight. I'm sure I bring all the best wishes of you all, and I ask that none of you worry, only if anything be proud. I'm only going over to do what I have been trained and prepared for, serving along some of the finest men I have ever worked with, in or out of the military. I'll be probably dropping contact to trae and Brooke, as well as anyone else who wants to leave me their address, when I can;

Wakowill@cs.com

Besides that, all of you please take care and I'll be back here laughing sometime in the next two years.

I, once again can relate with you leppy, I am retired master seargent of the United States Air Force. Seen action in the gulf war for two years. I just stared working again for the air force as a instructor. Seeing students leave everyday to go fight a war that they had no idea would take place is hard to swallow but with prayer and a strong sense of desire to see their family again, they will return not only happy but with a deeper understanding for the freedoms that we all overshadow everyday

Cube, we've discussed the legality of that, it's a no-no. On a side note, you Frost-ing tard (this goes to anyone stupid enough to let our retarded government run their lives for a bit of change and some insurance), please break as many rules as possible. For example if your rulebook says you have to ask permission for something, remember, the rulebook isn't always worded to say that you have to GET permission, use that to your advantage. Loopholes are your friend. Also, if the possibility arises, during a heated firefight, or something, could you pick off some civilians, or one of your own people, if you know you can get away with it? Preferably someone extremely stupid if on your side, or ugly women and young teens if on theirs. I'd appreciate it, and photo's. Remember, rotten.com's quality programing is sponsored in part by viewers like you.

they tell you not to even bring a Maxim magazine because it will be offensive to the host nation, but then you go to the PX and they have Stuff, Maxim, FHM, and all those mags. Plus, you can buy a little gold cross in the jewelery stores on the local economy... again, the almighty dollar (or lecke, or drachma or rupee or whatever the Frost it is) always wins out over militant religious opression.

Ok, first off I don't claim to be all knowing in the ways of politics but I just have to get this off my chest.

I've read both here and over there an increasing amount of anti war rhetoric. It pisses me off. I don't get pissed off easily so understand that when I say what I am about to.

Those of you against it and claiming it's because of oil - you are ignorant. The US gets approximately 10% of it's oil from the middle east. We're not going to war because of oil. Secondly, the other groups who are claiming we have no reason to go over there: I think the only reason you need to think about are the mounds of rubble, human remains and lives that were destroyed at ground zero.

Saddam is responsible for atrocities akin to Hitler against his own people, his family included. Doesn't that in and of itself make it possible that he could not think twice about inflicting that kind of harm to another country?

Lastly, the other group of you who claim government conspiracy or them not telling us everything... of course they're not going to tell us everything. Living where we do, we have to have trust in our leaders and hope and pray that the politics match up with the end result: an end to terrorism.

Above all else, turning against the men/women who CHOOSE to defend our country didn't get us anywhere in Vietnam why would it solve anything now?

Go ahead, flame me. I feel better.

I agree trae. I'm sick of the anti-bush, anti-war rants. He's president, deal with it. If you don't like him, then next election go out and do something to make sure he doesn't get elected again. Just be sure to support whoever gets elected. The very fact that we can slam Bush, or America is thanks to people like Leppy who go out and fight for our freedom and the American way of life.

When Bush calls me up to be in the Cabinet, then I'll worry about what is going on. And if he calls on me to be in the Cabinet, I think we all should worry.

Oh, and can we make it a given that no matter what Bush does or says, it's wrong? If he was trying to attack North Korea you would ridicule him, if he wasn't trying to attack Iraq you would ridicule him, he cuts taxes he's stupid, he raises taxes he's a horrible president, no matter what he does, you're going to ridicule him. So let's just leave it at that, no matter what he does, he's wrong. So rather than rant here to a bunch of people that don't care. Go out and do something to ensure a better person is elected next time.

All right, Trae. You want political debate, you got it.

First off, tell me how Saddam is related to 9-11. Not even the Bush administration can prove how Iraq is linked to Al-Quaeda, so if you can then I'll definitely be impressed.

Secondly, the USA gets just about 22% of its oil from the Gulf, not 'under 10%' as you claim. This is data from November 2002. That's no small amount, and if you don't think that opening the Iraqi oil supply up to the US market wouldn't cause that number to rise to at least 50%, you're fooling yourself. We'd be rolling in the Shakespeare and not have to worry about oil again for at least 50 years.

And thirdly, have you ever considered that maybe we shouldn't have been in Vietnam and that our politicians should take a lesson from that defeat? You can't win a war that your nation doesn't support, regardless of your agenda. Whether it's to curb the spread of communism or the proliferation of chemical/biological/nuclear weapons (or to avenge your daddy's political death), you need to listen to your public.

In this case, as in Vietnam, the public is telling the government to lay the Frost off.

I thought you were talking about production, not sales. The point I was implying was that for anyone to make the case that this is about stealing oil fields, you'd have to show a need to risk worldwide retribution for under 10% of the world's oil production.

There are about 15 polls a day by various organizations to that effect, Miyu, with wildly varying results. You have to consider the source, and the agenda that source is pushing.

The Gallup Poll (historically the most sound and accurate polling agency for over 70 years) released a poll the other day showing that 58% of Americans thought Bush would lie to convince the world to go to war with Iraq.

Top that.

We are going to war over oil in the sense that if Iraq can develop deployable WMDs especially against Isreal, he could black mail us into not taking action, if in the future he deciedes to gain more control of Middle Eastern Oil, and we cannot operate our country right now w/o Middle Eastern Oil. I am half thinking though that By Bush's Actions to prove we will oust Saddam by force, we are really trying to make him step down. First off, tell me how Saddam is related to 9-11. Not even the Bush administration can prove how Iraq is linked to Al-Quaeda, so if you can then I'll definitely be impressed.

You obviously missed Secretary Powell's presentation before the UN yesterday. For your information, Al Qaida is holing up in Baghdad as we speak. At minimum, there is your connection. Where do you think they ran after we ran them out of Afghanistan? More importantly, where do you think they were welcomed?

However, Iraq's connection to terror is so much more than a link to Al Qaida. Saddam is a ruthless killer who has not only conducted chemical and biological experiments on his own people, but has allowed the people of Iraq to live in squalor and poverty while building 14K gold palaces throughout the countryside.

That's no small amount, and if you don't think that opening the Iraqi oil supply up to the US market wouldn't cause that number to rise to at least 50%, you're fooling yourself. We'd be rolling in the manure and not have to worry about oil again for at least 50 years.

Saying we're only going to war because of oil is like saying we entered WWII only because we were afraid our Heineken supply was going to dry up. You people who think a madman like Saddam can be contained have apparently forgotten his invasion of Kuwait. Trust me, had we not intervened, his attempt at dominating the Middle East would have continued. He is merely waiting for the right time to strike again and that is when he has perfected his method of killing all of the innocent people that might possibly be in his path.

And thirdly, have you ever considered that maybe we shouldn't have been in Vietnam and that our politicians should take a lesson from that defeat?

Old, tired argument that has absolutely NO relevance to this situation. Throwing Vietnam up every time the subject of military force comes up shows how little merit your argument really has.

Whether it's to curb the spread of communism or the proliferation of chemical/biological/nuclear weapons (or to avenge your daddy's political death), you need to listen to your public.

The above is an example of your ignorance made completely evident in one simple sentence. In an attempt at some sort of humor or slam at the President, you gave two legitimate reasons for action that you don't even see. The fact that you can't see that just proves that you are one of those ideologues that doesn't care what the facts are - you'll always be against war regardless of what benefits it has or what kind of evil it stops. You and your ilk would rather be speaking German than English and would have stood by while Hitler slaughtered millions more Jews.

In this case, as in Vietnam, the public is telling the government to lay the breed off.

Not so. You, as much as you would think you do, do not speak for 'the public.' Not to mention, much of the public outcry during those years was due to the draft and it's implementation. Everyone knew someone who was sent to fight with very little warning. The draft doesn't exist anymore and every brave man or woman that heads out there is doing so because they volunteered to. You should be thankful for those brave souls because were it not for them, you wouldn't be able to freely express your opinions in a forum such as this. It's a shame you lose sight of that fact.

Thanks to UN sanctions, dear Sleestack. They're not allowed to sell their oil, you recall.

Good point there. After all, Saddam seems to follow all of the rules that the UN puts down. Have you not turned on a TV, tuned into the radio, or opened a newspaper lately?

Do some research, check your facts and then try again.

Now Bunny, let's not get all flag-wavy on us...I'm not sure I support the war, but that doesn't mean I'm not a patriot. I haven't been firmly convinced that Saddam poses a sufficiently "clear and present threat" (did the administration thank Clancy for that phrase?) to warrant American body bags.

And you might as well take a cynical view of the war rationale--it's probably closest to the truth. Some of the reason for ousting Saddam is certainly the proliferation of WMD--the US's postion on that is that we ought to be the only ones who can have them...but there are many other reasons, among them--yes, oil--Bush hasn't called for energy conservation(!) which seems morally incumbent upon the leader of the free world...another reason certainly to keep the Mideast politically destabilized, since we're hell bent on making sure we're the only superpower...and certainly vengeance for Dad is among George W's reasons (he said it, not me).

If harboring Al Queda (sp) operatives were reason to attack a country, we'd best turn our arms on ourselves. My guess is we've got more of 'em than Iraq.

Finally, Hussein represents a credible evil target and takes folks' minds off of our ridiculous failure to find Bin Laden.

But the sorry state of American "intelligence" agencies is another subject.

Besides, Saddam looks funny!

Listen here, noobs, cause uncle Tavis is gonna have to kick some ignorant ass now.

So Bunny thinks M. Powell proved that Al-Quaeda had shacked up in Iraq yesterday, does (s)he? Wow. That's interesting. Because I thought M. Bush had declared war on those Quaeda types a year or so back, and so if that's the case then why haven't we tossed a couple dozen Tomahawk cruise missiles up their collective asses? We were going to 'root out terror' no matter where it rests, so why have we let them continue to train in northern Iraq as M. Powell said they've been? Oh, and look, northern Iraq is dominated by the Kurds, who are very US-friendly. The Bush administration has even said so. What's stopping us from taking out these Quaeda operatives?

Obviously, the fact that they don't really exist.

Now what's up with the name calling and jumping to conclusions, friend Bunny? I'm an ideologue, am I? Well, I approved of the first Gulf War, and would have approved of Saddam's removal from power then and there. He invaded a neighbor and should have been spanked. But it's been 12 years since Bush Senior decided to let Saddam live, and we've had peace since. His neighbors aren't threatened by him.

If they were, then why are we paying Turkey 6 billion dollars so they'll allow us to protect them from Saddam?

You may call me ignorant, but you're the one who's being spoonfed propaganda and believing it without thinking for yourself.

And yes, M. Virnie. Bunny didn't make any sense by saying that last bit. Ignorant twat. The region's at peace. You're proposing war. Who's causing the unrest and violence now?

There are valid arguements on both sides, suppose China and Russia and Europe deciede it is contrary to their own self interests for the US to have WMD and use that as justification to depose our government and install one more to their liking. On the other hand. Sodam Insane throughs MAD out the window, and MAD has keept the world from being blowed up for the last 40 years. Saddam is also estimated to have enough biological agents to kill every person on the planet 5 times, and that stuff could easily be smuggled into this country and released on our people.

Most of the world thinks we are threatening Iraq without a cause right now. I don't see that your making any points whatsoever. Apparently you feel that we are some kind of greater good because we have a society based entirely on profit and capital gains. I disagree us starting a war with Iraq is no different then Iraq starting a war with us.

Along those lines, Mark, does nobody here remember just who put Saddam into power, who gave him his weapons of mass destruction, who encouraged him to use them against the Iranian Shah, and who voiced approval of the use of those weapons when they actually were used in war against said Iranians?

Oh yeah, that was us. Rumsfeld in particular. Back in the 80's, before any of us cared about Saddam.

Dear Sleestack and Feeble,

My commenst were not politically motivated, as I was trying to reduce current events down to human nature and the actions that are a result. We are THE superpower, we run Shakespeare. Of ocurse we're going to do whatever the Frost we want, I have accepted this. Who out there can stop us from doing what we want to do? For those of an older generation, including yourselves, you have rationalized our actions through politics. Fine. I can deal with that, if you think this is about politics then that's your piece. I, however, take the stance that what we're being driven by is far more devious, deceptive and troubling than what we're being told. If it brings you comfort to believe what you're being told by politicians and the media then that's your sanctuary. I am not holding allegiance to any country, society or government so I will not complain about our foreign policies. I will however, state here and now that as a country, the U.S. is the equivalent of what Rome was way back when Feeble was in diapers. We've reached our peak and I find that we're slowly dropping off. It was nice knowing you all.

Sincerely,

Manhattan "Oh My God Look At The Size Of His Penis" Fever

"Hire the Young - while they still know everything."

Turn the contrast button down a skoatch, there. You're seeing things through the youthful eyes of black and white, which gives you a sharp clear picture but eliminates the greys. Your shadows reveal nothing but blackness, your highlights are blinding in purity. Once your permit the greys to show through, you see the detail in the shadows, and the imperfections of the light.

Damn, that would make a decent greeting card.

Well that's where we differ I guess. You give reasons and justifications and rationalize this and that. Thusly, issues are made more complex and actions are justified threough those reasons. I'm not really into that. Break it down to where you can't break it down anymore and see what you have.

Manhattan, I am pretty cynical, as it seems you might be. Let's at least begin by reveling in the fact that we live in the only global superpower instead of some chump country what gets kicked around all the time...

History tells us superpowers fail, usually by overextending.

They're is really no need for a draft now. After 9/11, so many people became mega-super patriots, looking for someone to kill and a way to pick up chicks joined the military. Most services had reached their 2002 recruitment goals by June. I predict that after this whole thing blows over, they'll have a drawdown of forces and let people get out of the services early, just like after the Gulf.

Well, since Lep has not posted in the last 9 days, we have to assume that he is indeed in the line of fire as we speak. So, in deep respect for our brave young comrade......
