Buying a rat isn't very difficult. They can be purchased at pet stores for about 4 dollars. Cages, bedding, and toys for them, however, can get pretty expensive. They demand attention all the time, so the owner needs to have the time to be able to give them what they need. Rats are very smart, and curious creatures. They can be trained to run through mazes, jump on command, and walk along a rope. Also, they can be let out of their cages for exercise because they're smart enough to come back when called. They don't get along well with other species of animals, such as dogs or cats, unless they are properly familiarized with them.

I used to have a pet rat. Nicodemus was his name, and he knew it. He was my buddy for 3 years until he got a tumor. It made me sad to snap his neck with my bare hands. $50 to put down a $3 rat is ridiculous.

Actually, where I live it is hard to get a pet rat. In fact, it's illegal.
That concludes your lesson on Alberta for today.

Back to the rat talk, I will agree, they are not the most social animals, as My monitor lizard always greets them quickly, picks them up in his mouth, and shows them around his enclosure, (maybe a bit fast to really take in the sights) But after their tour, they usually are pretty rude, and boring as he nudges them trying to comunicate I'm sure, but nothing usually. By then he is so offended he tends to spin them round, and swallow them head first, then does this lizard dance thing(mostly neck movements) and then sends them 4000-5000 licks of water incase they findit dry down there and that's it .
I admit though, he is always still happy to see the next one again, despite their general anti-social behavior.
