Mock My Musical Tastes
A comedy conversation by Livewire 78,229 13

Thanks to Vlad for the idea. I'll list my 3 favourite bands, and you can tell me why my taste in music sucks, and yours is better.

Front Line Assembly (samples here)

LaserDance (low-quality samples here)

Sisters of Mercy (samples here)

Then you list your top 3, and so on.

Your taste sucks because you obviously don't play in a band, and therefor have no appreciation for true musical genius. Actually I'm talkin out my ass. Don't pay any attention to me, I'm just bitter and pissed at the world right now.

front line assembly - excellent; can't say anything bad about them

laserdance - what in the Frost? eurotrash, that's what.

sisters of mercy - they need to realize that they aren't really vampires. vision thing was a good album, though.

this week, i'm liking skinny puppy, me first and the gimme gimmes, and hagfish.

i'll just bitch about everyone's taste, then.

Zeppelin i've already made myself clear on this

Tenacious D the walking embodiment of pure rock. when he says kick it, you kick it w/ a tasty groove.

Pixies one of the greatest bands of all time. after the split, none of them bothered to live up to their potential.

Guided by Voices i don't know. is this one of those dead can dance, water music things?

Jeff Buckley i know people who think he's the shiznit. i, however, am not familiar.

Chili Peppers sell outs.

R.E.M. i don't hate them, but i don't particularly like them.

Foo Fighters/Nirvana meh, it's over. not bad, though neither should be on anyone's list of favorites. the revolution is over.

Pink Floyd &

Beatles / any British Invasion just because it's old doesn't mean it's good. it has no relevance to anything that anyone is doing today. also, floyd sucks just as bad when you're on acid as they do when you're not. anyone says any different is a god damned liar.

P.S. Worm, if you were into the Pixies, I think you would like GBV. The frontman, Bob Pollard, is an amazing songwriter and has the most incredible stage presence that I have ever witnessed. (Think: a case of longnecks, a carton of cigarettes, and high-kicks) But, rumor is that they're breaking up as well.

Also, you need to be listening to Spoon. They hail from Austin and their first album, Telephono, is quite Pixie-esque.

Mark this day on your calendar, because this is probably the only time you'll ever see anyone on GaB agree with me on music. Notice how I claim they're agreeing with me, even though they posted about the Postal Service first. I do that not just because I am a jerk, but also because my superior taste in music has lifted me beyond conventional concepts of linear progression and lets me totally meddle with the space time continuum. I'm sassy like that.

3. KMFDM/MDFMK

Now why your tastes in music sucks.

1. Front Line Assembly -

I saw them at The Varsity in Baton Rouge and I was quite disappointed with the sound quality. I know the venue is good because it actually made the opening band sound better : Switchblade Symphony. Also, I feel like Frontline doesn't have it's own identity due to the Skinny Puppy connections.

2. Shame on you for liking this more than Boris Mikulic.

3. Sisters of Mercy

This is a good choice and a few years ago - they might have hit my top three - but Vision Thing completely ruins the catalog. I can't let it go.

the black tape thing. i know switchblade symphony is all over, but black tape was a very local release, and unless i am wrong, it was never widely distributed.

BTFBG isn't so edgy or unknown. They have quite a following in Dallas. Strangely enough Dallas has a good darkwave/synthpop/goth industrial scene. Probably not as good as LA but - oh well..

If you ever happen by Red Square - take a look at the upstairs room... you can view my brother's artwork there...

Godot, I don't know what your deal is. I don't know why you're such a Coleridge-slobber, but you're about the biggest douche-rip ever. Are you mad cause you're not getting laid? Angry because you were born a mistake? Listen, it's not your mother's fault she sat on that dirty restroom seat, not everyone can be conceived traditionally.

I'm a big ticket item that never goes on sale.

I don't know why you're such a Coleridge-slobber, but you're about the biggest douche-rip ever.

Coming from you that's a compliment!!!

Are you mad cause you're not getting laid?

Nope, I'm actually getting laid. It's pretty neat really.

Angry because you were born a mistake?

Actually I am quite happy to be an accident. The last thing I want is to believe that my parents had LOTS of SEX to have me.

Listen, it's not your mother's fault she sat on that dirty restroom seat, not everyone can be conceived traditionally.

Do you even know where a vagina is located? Have you even see a vagina? I would link to porn but I'm afraid your parents might press charges.

Even though I don't like Jane - I must say the fact that she mentioned Miles Davis in her list of "others" - she is right.

Stone Temple Pilots

Miles Davis

Sarah M.

Henry Rollins

Dizzy

even Lenny - depending on the album...

Kenny Rogers

Mister Johnny Cash

Foo Fighters

The list can go on - but the fact that Jane gave mention to Miles - was ai'ight in my book.

Anything but opera and new country music is it in my book!

Jane - I know you hate me - and I really don't like you!

But I am passionate about music...

So, if you love Miles - you need to check out Kenny Drew. He was the keyboard player for Miles for many years.

You will like it. I like to be turned on to music that I don't know about. I hope you guys check him out.
