Ok, here's the deal behind the Houston scenerio:



I posted a thread asking for ideas and no one responded with any concrete ideas...except Spicey. He did some researching and offered to help co-host it with me.



I've never been to Texas, and back when Boxxx was 100% hetero, I was excited about the prospect. Now, that he's gone the way of teh c0kc!!!!1 I figure I'd still like to see Texas. There is a pretty hefty group of Gabbers in that area of the country as well, so it seemed logical.



We've had people come from as far away as Canada and Maine to these things - so the "it's too far away" excuse really doesn't work for me.



Bottom line: every one of these has been a lot of fun, and I'm sure anyone who has been, can attest to it.

I'll side with Trae, I've been to several local ones and they've always been fun.



One of the gatherings was unfortunatly overshadowed by a personality clash (One side of the clash was a Gabber known for his asshattitude) that was (wrongly, in my opinion) carried over to the board by the non-Asshat, albeit somewhat psychotic, Gabber. This escallated to the point where Boston gatherings got the reputation as being filled with hatred and carnage, which is not the case. Every other one of them has been fine and dandy and with the excepton of the two people directly involved everyone has gotten along swimingly.



As far as being elite, no, you don't need to be elite. Just normal. And it helps if people at least know who the hell you are. There was a lurker who attended a couple of the Boston gatherings and nobody knew who he was, he didn't know anybody, he didn't talk to too many people, and although he was perfectly harmless it was a bit weird having him there.



The most surprising thing, for me, has been how normal people really are in real life.
