Sorry I'll never ever start a thread like this again, put the pitch forks and torches away...

ALL OF THEM...

Thank you.

This sums up the good and bad of F-9/11 really, really well. It disects what Moore is bullShakespeareing about and what Americans should give thought to.

If there were a Jeopardy category called "Posts" and the answer was "dude is like a professor about this stuff" the correct question would be "What line is guaranteed to discredit all that came before it?"

Carry on.

The weakest argument I felt that Moore made was a tossup between Bush's ties to the Bin Ladens and that he stole the 2000 election (is there really much evidence to support the latter theory?)

The strongest arguments were regarding foreign policy with regard to Iraq and erosion of Civil Liberties via Patriot Act.

I thought that Al Gore putting down his own party members attempts to prevent Bush's anoinment was a good thing to include just because I never saw it.

However it's over and done with, focus more on making sure it doesn't happen again.

Also the whole bin Laden connection thing was gay, oil barons of all nationalities do stuff together, big whoop.

Oh and I thought Moore was being an ass with the whole "Coalition of the Willing" thing. He went ha ha look at all the little armyless nations in the coalition but skipped Spain, Italy, Poland and a host of others who went and shed blood for Bush's adventure. I thought that Shakespearety and a direct contradiction to his later "support the troops" thing.

Yeah, that was pretty lame. He should have focused more on how Dubya didn't seem to give a Shakespeare if he could build worldwide support before going in.

I'm completely shocked by the posts in this thread! I figured that most of you were intellectual people who would be willing to hear BOTH sides of the story with an open mind. This country is so scared to admit that we make mistakes, it's unbelievable. Michael Moore is an intelligent man willing to put his balls on the line to give us the information to form our own opinions...information that mass media has been covering up since the war began. And all you can do is say that he's lying?

I have 2 questions:

1.) Where are the weapons of mass destruction?

2.) Is the progression of this war worth all of the lost American citizens and billions of dollars to all of you?

The majority of people in this country are lead by the hand by the mass media and fed whatever they'd like us to believe. I strongly urge people to do some homework and get the facts before you start spouting what you heard on the 5 o'clock news.

I strongly believe that Bush is a Frost-ing idiot and the USA looks like a bunch of fools for putting him in charge of our country. The first time he was elected was a mistake...I only pray we don't screw it up again.

I have 2 brothers that are of draft age and I absolutely dread the thought of them being called up to fight in a war that is complete bullShakespeare. This is the Vietnam of our generation and I shudder at the thought of where this country is headed if Dubbya gets to keep his room in the white house.

There's an elaborate system of checks set up in our government to keep one branch of government from making major impacting decisions without the approval of others.

I think anyone who would be president at the time would be in the same position no matter who they are or which political party they belong to.Terrorists declaring war on us and our allies....the only logical step is to fight back or try bribing them in the old fashioned American way,and after 9/11 I think negociating went out the window. That wasn't the first attempt to try to bring the WTC down or first terrorist attack against Americans, but I think it was the straw that broke Bin Laden's camel's back.

As far as Reagan I only remember two things about him.Thats the assasination attempt and him pumping a godly amount of money into Star Wars and other defense projects which constributed largely to the deficet we have. Not saying he was a bad pres but he had his negative feedback as well.

SuperD, I hardly believe that the president is the sole person in charge of what's going on in this country. However, he did declare war AGAINST the suggestions of the rest of the government, against the recommendation of the UN...and come to find, he did it all for NO reason! I don't think he's the only idiot involved, but he is in the position to take the glory or the bashing for anything that happens during his presidency.

I do not believe that anyone in that position would have declared war in the way that he did. He lied. End of story.

I don't blame Bush for the september 11 attacks. I do however, feel that blame is directly upon his Administration for the current situation in Iraq. Bush used lies, innuendo and half-truths to capitalize on the fear of the American people to exact his personal revenge upon Saddam Hussein.

pixxie - he's not giving you information on which to form an opinion. he's just spinning it in the opposite direction. his distorted picture of reality jives more closely w/ what you want to believe, so you accept it as truth. if you like, you are free to explain why you don't think he's just another part of your much-despised mass-media.

he's not putting anything on the line, because anyone who might have cause be threatened by his work knows he's too much of a sensationalist, loudmouth, self-aggrandizing prick to be taken seriously by anyone who doesn't already share the bulk his views. in the grand scheme of things, he doesn't matter. he makes movies. at times, he's funny. his fans may think he's a big, fat, heroic monkeywrench in the gears of the fascist death-machine, but he's really just an entertainer, and he's going to make some phat lewt off this thing.

Some people say this film changes the minds of republicans. When the film ended, a handful of people were clapping, and the rest were 60 year old rich white people (the ones who hadn't walked out on the movie) staring at the screen with this look of ultimate contempt for Michael Moore. You know the bitchy, rich, arrogant white Shakespeare-heads i'm talking about. Ah, figures. The town that is the birthplace of the Republican party is 20 miles away from where I live. It struck me during the second half how seldom one sees in mainstream US media any extended interviews with Iraqis who vehemently oppose the US occupation. Since these are probably by now a solid majority, according to polls...

What polls?

it is odd that we never hear from that point of view.

I hear about it all the time. NPR, Houston Chronicle, NBC News, CNN, FOX News, to name a few.

There is an undertone of patriotism or even nationalism to national American news that is peculiar if one looks at the industrialized democracies in Europe, e.g.

It's a terrible thing when the media has pride in their country.

The film has an affecting scene of a woman screaming that her innocent, civilian relatives had been killed, and calling down curses on the US (yikhrib buyuthum, may God demolish their houses). Given the thousands of Iraqis killed in the past 14 months, there must be a lot of persons who feel that way. Moore is the only one showing them to us, to my knowledge.

That's because their god is the offspring of Satan.

I thought the point that Bush spent a lot of time away from Washington in his first 8 months in office was well made, and dovetails with the revelations of former anti-terrorism czar Richard Clarke about Bush's unconcern with the terrorism threat.

I definitely agree.

The way in which the Iraq war was a manipulated get-up job was also graphically and well portrayed. Likewise the cynical use of the "war on terror" to erode Americans' basic civil liberties is appropriately presented in canny and strident tones (James Madison would have been strident about this, too).

1) How can a war on terror be anything but cynical?

2) Actually James Madison would probably say something a little different.

James Madison quote #1: A dependence on the people is, no doubt, the primary control on the government; but experience has taught mankind the necessity of auxiliary precautions.

James Madison, Federalist No. 51, February 8, 1788

Gee, it sounds like James Madison is saying that sometimes adjustments have to be made in order to protect the people, whom, by the way, are supposed to control the government, not the judges.

James Madison quote #2: Among the numerous advantages promised by a well-constructed Union, none deserves to be more accurately developed than its tendency to break and control the violence of faction.

James Madison, Federalist No. 10, November 23, 1787

Gee, it sounds like James Madison would be in favor of going after terrorists cells, such as the faction of Islamofascism.

James Madison quote #3: How could a readiness for war in time of peace be safely prohibited, unless we could prohibit, in like manner, the preparations and establishments of every hostile nation?

James Madison, Federalist No. 41, January 1788

Gee, it sounds like James Madison would be in favor of a pre-emptive invasion.

James Madison quote #4: The invasion of private rights is chiefly to be apprehended, not from acts of Government contrary to the sense of its constituents, but from acts in which the Government is the mere instrument of the major number of the Constituents.

James Madison, letter to Thomas Jefferson, October 17, 1788

Gee, it sounds like James Madison realizes that privacy will indeed be intruded upon when it is necessary to protect the majority.

Hilarious 2 votes 4.0 /live?func=new_user&msgid=975338
Eekstein 292 11
06/30/2004 03:43 PM

To summarize: James Madison concedes that hostile forces will want to attack us, we should do every thing we can to stop that from happening, even if it means attacking them first, or usurping some rights of the American people to save the majority of them.

For the layperson: Quit acting like a bunch of pussies and realize that we are in fact at war with an enemy who wants the destruction of our way of life and will not stop until islamofascism rules the entire world.

Oh and of course James Madison would present this in "canny and strident tone," just like Michael Moore.

The interview with Michigan congressman John Conyers in which Conyers reveals that no one in Congress was allowed to read the Patriot Act before voting on it was breathtaking. I recently sat next to Conyers on a plane, and he explained to me that the final version of the bill, which had been very extensively changed, was delivered the night before the vote. He said it wasn't strange for a few minor changes to be made at such a late stage, but that it was his impression that virtually a new bill was dropped on the hapless Congress at the last moment. It is huge, and would have been impossible to read all the way through with attention under those circumstances.

Then why did he, and most of the rest of congress pass it?

I'd have to pretty much agree with the rest of it. Overall, however, it's a pretty weak review.

I'd like to know what clear objectives have been reached? WMD? I haven't heard about any. Restructuring Iraq's economy? Hmmm...doesn't sound like that's been worked through. We sure as hell have done a good job securing those oil wells, though, huh? I just think Dubbya is a Frost-ing Poe for not telling us we're going over there for oil and to finish what his daddy couldn't.

And actually, there are more deaths to date in this war than there were this far along in Vietnam. Like I said...let's do our homework.

We've handed their government back to them. Let's bring our boys and girls home and work on restructuring OUR OWN Frosted up democracy. The same democracy that gave the presidency to a man who not only didn't win the popular vote (the good ole electoral college is a bitch), but didn't even win the electoral vote, either!

That's because their god is the offspring of Satan.

Really, no point in reading anything after that.

What else do you call a religion that promotes the murder of innocents in order to gain rewards in heaven. That doesen't sound like a "great god" to me.

Whining goes something like this: "Do something about Terrorism! I don't care if it costs me my civil rights! As long as I feel safer!"

And, quite frankly, all that's been accomplished is giving people the perception of security. We're no more secure than we were 3 years ago, we just have fewer basic rights.

you can't answer me a non-googled response because you haven't lost any rights. So let me get this straight, you are upset about the one person who has been denied due process in this country: Jose Padilla, the suspected dirty bomber who wanted to set one off in Chicago. Your complaining about that?!?

I think that this war has definitely cost us some of our rights. How about Freedom of Speech? Anyone and everyone who is pro-war, pro-bush can say whatever the Frost they want and that's called PATRIOTISM. Anyone who disagrees is looked down as though they were a Frost-ing communist or something. Dixie Chicks said they were embarrassed to admit that the president was from their home state...how many radio stations yanked their music? One here in L.A. even had a ticket/t-shirt/cd burning on air! That's freedom of speech? C'mon.

I'll be the first one to say that I respect the men and women willing to give up their lives to defend our country. These people who make Shakespeare for money and put their asses on the line for a war that makes NO sense to me. I support them 100% for serving us. I just DO NOT agree with why they're over there. Especially, when the dickhead that sent them is a Frost-ing draft dodger himself!

Ummm, in the states maybe but over here no one can give support to bush withough being called a "nazi" or a "baby killer" and I suspect that things are pretty much even in the states. Hell, even your post with the burning of the CD on the air... That's freedom of speech too isnt it? After all, how many flags have been burned?

Tell me why it is a bad thing to remove saddam hussain, and how you are going to kill famine in some countires without removing the millitary dictatorship?

How can you say there is no freedom of speech in America? How many demonstrations and protests have there been in the states? Easily thousands. Dissent is more than welcome in America. You my get chasitised by those who disagree, but you won't get rolled over by tanks.

As for the bashing of the Dixie Chicks, that was just society speaking up against them becuase they didn't agree with them. Loss of freedom of speech occurs when the government intervenes to squash dissent.

Even when protesters were at their fever-pitch peak before the war started, President Bush said that they are free to voice their views becuase that's part of what makes America great.

You don't have to be a terrorist to have your rights eroded by the Patriot Act. Watch the movie and you'll see a guy who gets a nice little visit from the FBI simply for bad-mouthing Bush at the gym.

As for Google, all I used it for was to look up the amendments in question. I know which rights are infringed by the patriot act. Those are my words & thoughts.

Sorry to bump this thread, bump Damn...I thought there was a post somewhere in here for a link to a download of F 9/11. I was probably thinking of the link way back at the beginning...

The thing is, I'm taking a class on the history and current happenings in the Middle East and said that I knew of mirror sites where the film could be downloaded. I could have sworn that I saw that somewhere here---and google is not helping---and I don't want to look like more of the Jackass that I already am...

Any other good sites?

Help, anybody?

Thanks

I'm actually thinking of writing a small book/phamplet as an aid to Michael More's movie, explaining to Republicans and the more conservative Democrats what the issues at heart are, and all that good stuff. Basically it's to play on how much smarter the liberal democrats are than everybody else. Anybody want to help me write it? I can pay in brownies.

You sound like a "great big idiot" to me. Hey why don't you look up a little thing history calls the Crusades or the Inquisition? You seem so keen on studying the dual causality between religion and innocent dead people but you don't seem to know a lot. This may shock and disturb you but every crime you can lay at the doorstep of Muslims you can find a Christian and/or Jewish equivalent. It's not the religion that is the issue; it's bad people doing bad things, what sky god they beg favors is immaterial to the horrors they launch.

Anyone who blathers, "My God is bigger than your God" is overcompensating for some sort of inadequacy spiritual or otherwise.

I'm proud of you Salvage, your debating skills have improved over the past year - you've matured a little bit and for that I say congratulations.

However, one thing that still makes you look like a Frosttard is when you put words in my mouth in a desperate attempt to make me look stupid.

I never said anybody's God was bigger than my God. I only believe in one God, so how can he be bigger than something that doesn't exist? My saying that their god is the spawn of Satan is not spiritual inadequacy - it's what I believe and happens to be the Frost-ing truth. That may be a weakness to you, but on the other hand I think those who belive that "all of our God's can co-exist" is inadequate. They are too contrary to one another.

Anyway, as far as the inquisition, if the same thing were to happen today, I'd say kill all the Frost-ing Catholics responsible for that too.

You wanna talk about inadequacies? What kind of Frost-ing dipShakespeare nut-licking, neighbor felching Frostwad names his website hairy fish nuts? Is that some kind of Freudian slip on your part, dumbass? "Oops! I just named my website what I think about when I'm cleaning my nuts in the shower, and didn't realize it!" Yeah, way to get some instant credibility.

"yay! Let's go visit our hero at hairy fish nuts for all the latest and greatest in the land of lefties! Horray for Salvage's hairy fish nuts...HORRAYYY!!!"

Go ahead and bump this dead thread again and put more words in my mouth, I don't care. This debates dead as far as I'm concerned.

Eekstein:

You have faith that your version of god is the correct one. Faith is defined as belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. (copied from dictionary.com) There is no proof or evidence that your god exists.

Please stuff it and leave everyone else to intellectual debate.

Put words in your mouth? How can I do that with it attached to your jammed up your ass head?

Are you new to the Internet? Did you notice that I quoted you above my first paragraph? That's where I was directly addressing your spew. I didn't attempt to make you look stupid, that would be like trying to make Marlon Brando look fat and dead.

The next quote was not something you said, obviously, but rather an all-encompassing reference to your general attitude that somehow one religion is intrinsically better than any other when they're all equal by their very nature. How can one faith-based idea have more validity than another? Does an American Native prancing around his tee-pee for rain produce any more humidity than the Pope shaking his beads at a cloudless sky from the gold embossed Vatican balcony?

Catholics, by the way, hardly have a monopoly on murder for their angry god.

Hairyfishnuts is a reference to something, if you knew what it was you'd be a better person. If the only flaw in that mess of a blog you can spot is the name than you must be so stupid that you plan to retire on your Nigerian investments.
