Boy this one has many facets.
We got to be friends with another couple a few years ago and helped them through some tough times. They have gotten married since, blended their families, joined our church, decided to homeschool and eventually followed Hen around enough to join about everything we're involved in.
Then the trouble started. Their daughter is a bitch. B.I.T.C.H. That movie Bad Girls was written about her. She is the girl in a crowd that plays everyone against each other, causing havoc, and just being a major Carroll. She falsely accused my daughter's piano teacher of grabbing her hair when she wouldn't play a piece right (the kid never practiced and the mother regularly let her out of things like recitals so she wouldn't look bad being behind the other kids her age). My daughter has had many a night where she cried desparately about it. She didn't know any better and before we found out about it was doing her best to placate the little bitch and was being used and abused along with the rest.
We hesitated at first, as we have kind of been mentoring the other family. So we took it up with them as a character flaw they might want to work on. The mother was upset, but made lots of excuses about the kid having to live through her divorce with first husband, yadda yadda, and she would talk to her.

Thinks calmed down for a while, but then came back with a vengence, and now my daughter is the center of her venom.
Well fool me once.... We had two options, confront, or back off. We had tried confronting but the mom didn't control her daughter, so we started to separate ourselves from them. We pulled our kids from the activities that would force them together. We stopped socializing with them. We didn't change churches, but we did keep our daughter away from the little bitch, which raised some eyebrows as to why our kids were not participating with the other childrens ministries stuff. We told them we were just protecting our daughter from a bully. No names.
But parents asked their kids and a couple of them started watching and soon saw what we had been alluding to without pointing at anyone. So other families started backing away as well.
Hen has been waiting for the mom of the little bitch (aka a drama queen) to come crying that her daughter has become a pyria, but instead, the mom calls today to hand over a bigger bombshell.
Her daughter has been diagnosed with Hodgins Disease. The Big C. She will go through Chemo and all. Lose her hair, get sick, maybe die.
Well, I'm a Christian but I'm not Jesus. She was a bitch before. Now she's just a sick bitch.
I'm not saying she's getting what she deserves at all. God forbid. All I'm saying is sometimes bad things happen to bad people. Should I have to cut her slack because of it?

No, no hugs. She has earned a punch in the gut as well as one for her mother for allowing her to hurt other people.
My guess is the little drama queen will play this up in a big way. She will be the victim of the world after this.

Maybe she has been bitchy because she hasnt been feeling well.
I get like that every 30 days or so.
Maybe the cancer will mellow her out. You know...see the error of her ways.
Or, having cancer could get her lots of attention and make her and even BIGGER bitch after she beats it.
Tough call. Once again Chickens, you make me thank god I have boys.

I'm a firm believer that bad things don't happen to bad people nearly often enough. I can see how you'd want to feel good and bad for the little hellion at the same time.
Hopefully, this turn of events won't make her think the world now has to pay attention to her and shower her with sympathy.
You should send her a wig with a nice sarcastic note attached to it saying: "I know this gift may seem rude now, but eventually you'll be to ashamed to take it off. HAHAHAHA!!!

Funny, mailman. Hope you get a full tube for that one.
No, we didn't get her to start homeschooling. Her mom saw the way our kids behaved and they way they were a couple of grades ahead of their age group, and pulled her kid from the public school hoping to get the same results. Only thing is she just spoils her more now.

Daughter just called me boo-hooing her heart out. She feels guilty for hating the other kid.
I explained that the kid was bad before, now she's just a sick bad kid (see how gab translates into the real world? all nice a cleaned up). Also that maybe this will mellow her out.
Still, daughter is scared. This is her first look at death in anyone her age. I still remember the face of the kid who died in 1st grade. I think he's the only one I can really remember well.

SHP - no works
Isa 64:6 - But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;
Roughly translated that means all our good works are like filthy menstrual rags compared to God's goodness and our good works do nothing for our salvation.
But:
Jas 2:18 -But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

And if it turns out this whole diesese thing was just a ploy to get sympathy and attention, kick her ass.

I probably picked the wrong homeschooler to get into this discussion with. But, I was homeschooled for the majority of elementary school, in private Christian schools until junior high, and thrown into public school second semester of 7th grade.
My feelings on this. I was years ahead of my classmates scholastically because of homeschooling. But socially, I was far behind. Public school was one of the worst shocks this little sheltered homeschooler ever got. But once I got used to it and figured out how to blend in and not make a fool of myself with my naiivety on so many things a junior higher should know (and believe me I got hell), I would never have wanted to go back. You just can't substitute that social experience where you figure out what makes people tick and how to relate to people who aren't of your religion or beliefs. I fear that homeschooled kids, the ones who are homeschooled until college, are the ones who will wind up socially innept and potentially dangerous to society.
This little girl was accustomed to public school. I can imagine how frustrated she must be, having been thrown into a cult like group of little brainwashed children. The cancer was probably shock related. Or she's staging it to get away from homeschooling. Smart one.

Oh, no. His table manners are top notch. *wink*
Chix, as a christian, you have the responsibility to help her and her family. How do you help? Pray for them. That's really all you can do. Take them a meal once a week when she's going through chemo. Chemo isn't just hard on the one that's sick, it's hard on the whole family. Having a meal there so that they didn't have to worry about food may seem like a little thing, but I promise it will be a big thing to them.
This is all I think God wants from you. He doesn't want your daughter to be exposed to her bitchiness. From what I know of you, you are a good man with a huge heart. Just follow your heart. There's not a doubt in my mind that it would lead you in the wrong direction.

You should put her in the middle of a large room and have everyone in your congregation stand around her in a circle holding hands. Say some prayers for her health and recovery.. The Lord guide you and keep you blah blah blah.. then, a moment of silence. Then, one by one, everyone in the circle can turn their back to her. You can either be first, or last.. whichever you like. After the last person turns away, someone should let her know that she had better clear off now.
"Dear God, if there are any really bad mean horrible girls in the room, could you tell them they'd better leave soon? And could you also tell everyone who isn't a really bad mean horrible girl that stoning will commence in the parking lot in 5 minutes, to be followed by cake and coffee in the annex? Amen"

The parents (who seem like nice people) will need the sympathy.
Their daughter, however, may need some help- token gestures. Maybe be nice to her once every few weeks for an hour or so.

you pray to your god at night, and you love the sound of your own voice as you pray. you like to pray out loud, don't you - in front of lots of people. and you love to tell people about all the wonderful things you do for unfortunates.

my parents were sucked into home schooling by people that organized and ran a book fair every year. they made quite a bit of money selling home school curriculum under the guise of increasing awareness about all the benefits of home education. they were quite well off, and so their own kids had an education that would probably rival any. but most of the people they made their money on just purchased the bare necessities because that's all they could afford.

Speaking as a terminally ill person I would say leave her alone. If she's a bitch, then all the cuddling and warm fuzzies aint going to change her. Be nice to the parents, if you like them.
Think of it this way. The little vash will be too ill to be a nuisance now! Yay!

you find joy in the suffering of a child - which you quickly follow with a textbook christian disclaimer to mask your insincerity - and you laugh at your enemies as they die of cancer. but you never have any trouble sleeping at night or looking at yourself in the mirror.
keep home schooling your kids, chickens. brag about their impressive test scores to other parents but conveniently leave out the part about them slowly becoming social invalids. make them think they are normal when they are not, and keep up appearances throughout their childhood and adolescence. be their shoulder to cry on when they finally learn how the world is, and always facilitate their martyrdom. hell, propagate it - if you think the world needs more people like me.

Hello Charlotte. Welcome back. How are you? Good. You may now Frost off. We didn't miss you, and we won't miss you again. And lay off of Chickens, you Frost-ing bloody Carrollrag. He's just relaying information, and asking for an opinion based on the facts. I read your posts, but damned if I could understand one Frost-ing thing you were babbling on about.
Please go the Frost away. Life seemed much more pleasant without you.

Re-Include the brat in your social activities, but do not leave her without adult supervision around the other kids. A child with a potentially fatal desease is deserving of sympathy no matter how big a bitch she is.

Wow, charolette, way to blame your folks for your Frosted up view of the world. Not that you have any choice in the matter what so ever, seeing as how your grown and can't change things for yourself.
I was poor and had the utter living Shakespeare beat out of me on a daily basis as a kid.
Too bad somewhere along the way I didn't decided that my conditions were wrong and that as an adult I would dedicate my life to being a good mom and productive human being.
Oh, wait. I did. What a novel concept.

<action>Puts pad and pencil down and says "Look in the mirrior and say 'I'm good enough, I'm smart enough and gosh darnnet people like me."</action>
One can allow the past hurts and experiences control them to varrying degrees, or move on and recognize that other people's actions did affect you at one time. But you currently control your own destiny and productivity; spiritually, emotionally, and physically speaking. Easy enough to relay, hard to really grab ahold of and practice.

You can always decide to change your life and overcome your upbringing, but you have to remember that you will always see the world through the filters it has handed you.
As the adult child of an alcoholic, I am slow to offer my affections to those around me. I know and understand this. Also I'm hyper-attentive to keep family problems hidden inside the family. I was brought to keep the dirty little family secret behind our closed doors and make the world think we were the Cleavers. Another Adult Child of Alcoholic tendency.
So when I feel like exploding cause wifey discussed some little family foible with her friends over coffee, I, because I have the power of knowledge about my own over-blown tendency, can make the decision to step back and breathe before slapping her around a bit to teach her to KEEP HER Frost-ing PIEHOLE SHUT.....
oops.
sorry.

Ok, so I read through this whole thread. I'm at work, hence I'm bored. Here's what I get:
Chicken's has a real dilema, one I'm very happy I don't have. Tried to get advice. Got some good advice, and some jokes. Normal for GAB.
Some poeple hate home schooling, some people hate public schooling, some (like me) hate school and thiks we should ALL be raised by wolves and be as smart and cool as Chi-chi.
Charlotte is back. And isn't winning any popularity contests. No shocker there.
Sooooo.... my question is:
Is Godot back too? And, what should I have for lunch?

Chickens, you're going to do what you want to anyway, but it seems strange that the daughter would suddenly be diagnosed with Hodgkins after people start ignoring her. If she's really sick, do what your conscience tells you. If she's not, place a flaming bag of poo on the front doorstep of her house, cause poo is funny and flaming poo is friggin' hilarious.

Wasn't there some woman a couple years ago that faked her daughter's cancer in order to get help and donations and was recently convicted of fraud among other things? So I guess it's possible to fake a cancer in your kids. It'd just be stupid and make you more of an outcast.
