eBay BullShakespeare
A comedy conversation by Zaphod Beeblebrox 31,599 13

So I had a deadbeat bidder about two weeks ago. At first he promised to pay, but then when the day he promised came and went, he decided to ignore my emails. I was always polite in my correspondence (yeah, I know, what a surprise), hoping I'd get my $92 from him, but when I saw that he was "no longer registered", I send him a message that said, "I see you have cancelled your eBay account to avoid dealing with this auction. Thanks for being a deadbeat." This was a few days ago. Today, I receive a message from him that says, "Frost you bitch, I'm hunting you down and I'm going to slit your throat you bitch muhahahahahaha".

What are the legal ramifications of this? This guy has pissed me off, and I'm hoping that I can get him in some sort of trouble for sending threats via email. If that's not the case, it's time for all you Gabbers to get to work - Compose for me a response that will catch his attention.

The item I was selling was a Rurouni Kenshin DVD box set. I got it as a gift, and I hate anime.

You can't do Shakespeare. You would have to prove that he made an effort to carry out the threat in the email. And chances are you sold the item to a kid who couldn't get ahold of his parent's paypal password.

He had a feedback rating of 1, which always makes me uncomfortable. I hate when eBay n00bs bid on my stuff. However, the one other item he did purchase was a $450+ camera package, so I figured he'd be good for $100.

So what do you guys suggest for a response to him? I was thinking of telling him I have sent his information to the FBI based on his threat related to a legal, binding contract, but that doesn't really seem to have any "kick" to it. Threatening to kill him back isn't what I'm looking for either. Come on, I'm sick and not able to think for myself at the moment. Ok fine, I'm just lazy.

Post his email here - I'm sure we could arrange a few emails to him , suggesting what he did and emailed is not nice , and inform him where he can place a rabid ferret.

Do you think he'd also appreciate being emailed a few hundred goatse pic's ?

It is a legal contract and you could win a small claims court decision I bet, but then you have to collect. The State Martial is the only way to pursue that and they get loaded down I hear.

Try to get his info from Ebay, or Pay Pal if you can.

By then it will be 4-6 months later and you will most likely be hating on some other fraudulent punk by then.

Threaten the small claims court option first. No one wants crap like that haunting them every trip to the DMV.

I've already relisted it, the auction ends tomorrow, and it looks like I'll end up getting about $100 anyway. Had he not sent off some smart-ass threat, I would have forgotten all about him.

If I request his contact information (if I can even get it - he's an unregistered user now) he will be sent mine in return, and I don't want him having my phone number and Shakespeare.

Great. Hit ONE guy in the face with a slice of pizza, and it becomes your legacy. I can see it now - Decade from now, when I've finally given up Gab (which will of course still be here, but Trae's kid will be running things by then) or died, people will still speak of the pizza event. Hopefully, in hushed tones.

Actually there are some legal things you could if you really wanted to press the issue, but like what was stated earlier, was probably just a kid that couldn't get the money from mommy and daddy. I would just contact Ebay support and attach his user name and email threat he sent to you. They will have all his information.

I started the bidding at $9.99, so don't look at me.

However, I used to love Speed Racer as a kid - I'd rush home from school so as not to miss it, and have to tune it in on like UHF channel 68 or something (This was before cable, kiddies) and deal with the static-filled picture. When cable was introduced, we were early adopters. It was AWESOME - one extra channel that played movies during the day, and after 10PM? SKIN FLICKS! But the greatest thing (hey, I was a little kid, I was asleep before porn time) was that they showed Speed Racer, followed by Hercules every day, right after the channel 68 episode ended, but with cable-riffic picture quality.

Hey Zap,

Did you notice he sold like 15 items in L.A. in Dutch Auctions but got no feedback for them himself.

It is listed in "feedback left for others"

The description pages aren't a rookie's work.

And the dollar value's are decent to have several items. He must have a business.

No matter the name or names he uses you have to link it to a way for stuff to be delivered and how it will be paid. Lot's of information they have.

You could write saying what you have told us. Tell them in no way do you want him to have your information as well. But they can block any more buisness he does by address or account #. Send a CC to paypal as well,if he was regestered, then call your local PD and ask if they have a internet unit that investigates death threat's via e-mail.

The serious issue is threatening your life. Obviously you still have his email address. Contact his ISP, inform them that he has threatened your life, and they need to have the FBI look into it. The secret service investigates every email threat that the president gets, so I'm pretty sure the feds have to follow up on it.

I've considered doing some bad things to deadbeats before, and I've found that you can really find out a lot about someone from their eBay information you're privvy too after the sale. Like their phone number, home address, real name, etc. The real name entered into Google can turn up all kinds of things. So send him an email that says "If you slit my throat, the police will open my safe deposit box. In it they will find a note that says 'My killer is named *****. He lives at Blah St., in Newark NJ and his phone number is 555-555-5555.' That is, if I don't get you first." He'll Shakespeare because there's a huge chance he has no idea how easy it was to find his info.

If you've got a person's address I've got a pretty good idea that I think would seriously piss someone off.

I got this idea when I worked in the magazine section at Borders. We carried hundreds of magazines, and stocked numerous copies of each. Being magazines, each had about 10 of those annoying little subscription cards that would fall out whenever you picked it up.

I used to clean those things out of the magazine rack and fill up garbage bags with them.

So you go to Borders or Barnes and Noble and spend half an hour or so plucking those cards out of every magazine you can get your hands on. Take them home, fill them out with dipShakespeare's address and check the "Bill me later" box.

Voila. In four to six weeks Captain Douchebag starts getting a dozen or so magazines every week. He'll have no idea where they're coming from. Maybe he'll call up the companies and bitch to them that he didn't order them. Maybe he'll just pitch them in the trash. Whatever the case, it seems like it would be a giant pain in the ass to deal with.

Not for what he sold.

Rurouni Kenshin is a very popular anime (and manga). Popularity hikes up prices.

Also, that was a box set. The going minimum for box sets of popular anime is $75. Some box sets are over $200. He probably should have started the bidding higher.

Personally I think it would have been funner had that been a La Blue Girl or Best of Kitty box set, but I'm thinking eBay doesn't allow you to list those.

Though if ya really want "shocking" rent the box set of La Blue Girl.

Just googling for info about it made me hurl.

Here's Ebays responce:

First, I'd suggest that your friend immediately report this instance to the local law enforcement authorities. To find the name of a local law enforcement officer that can help your friend, please refer to the

following Web page: www.usacops.com

Your friend may also want to contact this person's Internet Service Provider (ISP) and make them aware of the type of email that you have been receiving.

To do this, look at the senders email address and substitute the word postmaster in place of the name in front of the @ symbol. For example, if the email was sent from notnice@toomuch.com, your friend would send your report to postmaster@toomuch.com.

In order for me to take action on your report, please ask your friend to report to us directly and send me a copy of the actual email along with its full header. The full header is extremely important, as we cannot take any kind of action without it. A header will look like a string of

"nonsense" characters, similar to the example I have pasted for you

below. You can find this by using the "properties" function of your

email program.

For security reasons we cannot open attachments sent to us. Therefore, please copy the contents of the message and header, and paste it into

the body of the reply. For clarity, we ask that you paste the message headers directly above the corresponding email text.

As soon I have received this information, I will be able to further investigate your situation.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

I would never suggest this, as it is a federal offence, but hypothetically, you could get one of those address change forms and have all his mail forwarded to some PO Box in Arizona. Apparently, the cable company and electric company don't like it when bills go unpaid.

I high suggest this path not be followed when you have someone you hate.
