I'm involved with market research.



The worst cities I faced so far in my line of work were Dallas, Atlanta, and Boston (in that order).



Boston just wound up being bad timing, where the Red Sox were about to win the World Series. A number of them did set callback dates, but on days I was off work. No surveys in this area, but I wasn't ticked off at them for it.



Atlanta, gave Southern hospitality a bad name. BUT I was averaging 3 surveys a day with them.



GIVE DALLAS BACK TO MEXICO! I won't even mention why, except they're the worst excuses for human beings on earth. I actually called in sick to avoid calling Dallas on the survey they're probably STILL trying to get 30 people to finiShakespeare. I felt this survey was the best one that I would ever do, then the phones started dialing. It involved country music, and I'll leave it at that.

1: We generally don't like marketers of any type. I can't imagine anybody does.

2: We don't like folks getting into our "business".

3: The unfriendly Atlantans you dealt with were probably transients or transplanted Northerners who have nothing better to do than bitch about the south.

If most of them would have stayed longer into the intro instead of hanging up after three words, they would have known that they were getting paid for their time. That was my biggest complaint with Atlanta.



The ones that did the surveys there were great, and even made it somewhat enjoyable. I didn't like the music that played with it, but it was enjoyable nevertheless.



My guess was that one of the radio stations in Atlanta (99 X) was considering changing formats and needed the input from the listeners of the station on what they wanted to hear on that station.

The truly sad thing about 99X is that there's an alternative station in BIRMINGHAM that's ten times better than they are. 99X is one of the worst stations I've ever listened to and that's sad when you consider they're one of the few in town not owned by Clear Channel.

If this was when I think it was, 99X was trying to improve on what they were doing. They started running promos featuring listeners who had called in to let the station know what they could do to get better.



Example:

"Yeah, you guys are great but could you play a different Pearl Jam song than 'Jeremy' all the time? Thanks"



And then they'd come right out of that and play Pearl Jam's 'Jeremy'.
