Eric Schulzentenberg was stunned when school officials in Alexandria, Minnesota, ruled his kilt did not comply with their prom dress code. Male students are required to wear pants at Osakis High School. The 17-year-old student was given the option of changing into a pair of jeans before entering the event earlier this month. But he elected to accompany his date Jena Schoniger wearing the tartan in honor of his grandfather's mother. He was unable to join her for dinner and had to look on from the sidelines as another man escorted her through the prom procession. He said, "They should be able to accept other cultures and other ideas. That is what education is all about." The controversy ruined the night for his date. Jena said it made her cry. "I definitely know that this was not the greatest night of my life. It should be up there but it's not even in the top 10."

Maybe a Scottish name might have helped him some. Dirty German.

Because we all know the best way to honor a dead relative is at the prom.

I read that a couple of weeks ago. Also heard a prep school IN FREAKING ENGLAND is banning kilts as part of dress code.
What is this 1773?
This is acceptable, and this is underdressed?
Bite me, kilt hatas.

Not that I would wear a skirt kilt, but I think it is entirely appropriate as formal attire.
With prom season in swing, I see a lot of kids in limos looking like homeless pigs. You think they could wash behind the ears on one night a year. I went out to dinner with my family on Fri and Sat, both nights at nice places, and saw kids in tuxedos with gym shoes, jeans, or t-shirts.
This bothers me that this is perfectly acceptable (these kids are in a well-off community, so money is not the issue) but the formal attire of an entire nation is not.
I supported my German heritage when I went to my prom: I wore suede shorts, knee-high wool socks, boots, and a felt hat with a feather in it.

I can't think of anything funny to say about the douchebaggery of so many school officials. I just thought this thread needed more kilt.

I tried wearing something to honor my ancestors at prom, turns out buckskin leggings and lederhosen don't really look that good together.

A guy I work with wears one of these to work about once a week. Unlike the guy in the picture, he does wear a shirt with his kilt.
I'm surprised no one has told him he can't, but I guess the dress code doesn't cover guys in kilts.
I think it shows a lot of confidence, although I know a lot of others snicker behind his back.
He is pretty well-built, though, so I don't think anyone besides a close friend would say anything to his face.
I'm not sure if he wears anything under it--it would be considered harassment to ask, probably.

From an experienced voyeur, it's not harassment to wear mirrors on your shoe tops...unless you get caught. In which case it may not be harassment if you can come up with the right story...
