There's a pair of ducks that are regulars to our neighborhood, so everyone kind of watches out for them. I'm no exception. Today, the pair was standing in the middle of the street. I've seen how drivers come flying around the curve with no regard for anything that may be in their path, so I urge the ducks out of the road towards our lawn.
As I'm doing so, I see a large and fluffy cat over near the neighbor's yard, crouched down with her eyes fixed firmly on the two wayward waterfowl and her hindquarters twitching with tension. This looks like a well-fed fuzzball, so I feel no guilt at all about denying her a potential duck dinner.
However, just as I'm about to take anti-feline countermeasures (or is that 'catermeasures?'), I'm spared the trouble by a very large and feisty crow. Said featherhead came diving out of the tree to the left of where I was, growling some bizarre variant of the familiar 'Caw!' sound you usually get from these birds, and heading straight for the cat.
Ever seen a cat's eyes bug out in surprise? Ducks forgotten, the not-so-intrepid feline turned tail and scrambled for cover under the neighbor's pickup truck. She didn't quite make it before the crow managed to dive-bomb her so close over her back that I saw fur get ruffled.
Said crow, mission accomplished, chuckled to itself and took up watch in a nearby tree. The ducks, oblivious to the fact that they might have just narrowly missed ending up on a feline dinner menu, continued to chow down on seeds I'd put down for them.
I have no idea if this was a crow acting to protect the ducks, or simply a crow with an attitude about cats. Either way, I practically folded double laughing about it. ;-)
Keep the peace(es).

I'll be here for about 15 minutes or whenever I decide to pass out in a drunken stupor!

I love cats, but it's funny as Frost when birds dive bomb cats - it's like watching nature renenacting WWII

And I absolutely agree with larkknot... it's just like world war 2. What about those times in the war when the planes weren't around, and the nazi's leapt out from behind the bushes and ATE THE ALLIANCE TROOPS RAW!
Sorry, I just got caught up in a flurry of imagination.
