Bring out ya dead (kittens)!

Speaking of kittens, about 2:00am Saturday night (yeah, I know that is really Sunday morning but Frost you) I look out on our deck because our cats are looking at something through the door (it has windows, they can't see through wood...or can they?). I look down and next to the food bowl for the outside cats, squirrels, racoons, llamas and possums is a dead kitten. It looked to be about 2 weeks old. Apparently one of the female cats in the neighborhood read in her local entertainment guide that we were a good place to get a bite and maybe be a gateway to a better life and decided one of two things:

1: My kitten isn't dead. Its just lazy. I'll bring it to the Frat House (yeah, I said it) to get it something to eat; or...

2: My kitten is broken. Won't somebody please fix my broken kitten?

I don't know if it counted on option three.

3: Weird ol' Fartberry gets his wife out of bed, goes outside with a shovel at TWO O' CLOCK IN THE FRIGGIN' MORNING and buries the kitten under the deck, in a hole about three feet deep so maybe nobody will dig it up and have a tiny snack. While the mother cat probably watches.

It was awful. It hadn't been dead long. It was real limp and its head kept bobbing around when I was trying to scoop it up with the shovel on the deck. I must have pushed it around like I was sizing up a shot on goal or something (that's for you Canadian folks) until I finally got it on the shovel. The stiff ones are easier to scoop up (that was for you QTA folks).

Ten minutes later the mother cat shows up and proceeds to look all over the deck for her kitten. Frost, maybe it was just really lazy.

In place of the dead kitten, I ended up adopting one of the ones who made it.

Her name is Miss Scarlett.

My father's dog is named Rhett, and his cat (Dad's, not the dog's) is named Scarlett.

And, the neighbors down the street have 4 dogs - Scarlett, Rhett, Mellie, and Ashley.

Bunch of GWTW freaks.

One of our kittens just found a new way to almost kill herself. It's like a wonderous game they play every day. The first was them sticking their claws in electrical sockets. The second was ramming their head face first into a tool box. The third was them tangling themselves up in cords, then jumping to get it around their neck. Now the tabby has decided it would be an awesome idea to stick her head in the litter container and run around the room hitting stuff with it. The scissor-made hole was not in there at the time she crammed her head in there.

Great picture. Although, could your cats' suicidal tendencies perhaps be a sign of thier feelings towards you, their owner? I'll bet you dress them up for Halloween, don't you?

Actually their mother sat on them several hundred times when they were very young and often didn't get up for a minute after they started crying. She also tried to pick them up, but then dropped them and forgot about them several feet from her nest. I'm positive they suffer brain damage.

And why yes, between suicide attempts I do dress them up.

More side splitting madcap cat hilarity:

We had to take one of our older cats to the vet this afternoon. Seems he's upset about the constant rotation of other animals and he's taken to peeing a little bit on the walls. Its not a lot and there's no smell and it cleans up easy enough but its getting annoying and we know he's not happy. Meh, its part of being a cat owner. And thank God its only one that's doing it. We've tried a couple of things but nothing has worked. So, on to the vet.

Well, the vet, a woman, says that we should start giving him estrogen because that calms down the male cats.

VET: Just give him a pill a day for seven days and see if it makes a difference.

ME: Ok, but if he starts lactating is it ok to drink it?

I didn't think she was ever going to stop laughing.

I told my mom about the little kitten and his Coleridge-sucking sisters. She needed a story to cheer her up after her knee surgery.

She and my father enjoyed it, especially when I told them what I said in reply. My dad laughed his ass off.

Don't worry, my 70-year-old parents aren't going to start posting here. Even though I know they'd click all my posts.

Even better, call her and tell her you did.

Frat: Hi. Ummm, remember yesterday, I asked about cats lactating, and if it's ok to drink it?

Vet: Hahahah, yeah, I remember.

Frat: Oh good. Refresh my memory, was it ok to?

Vet: W-what do you mean?

Frat: Well I really wanted cereal this morning but we ran out of milk. I didn't feel like going to the store that early and the cat was right there...

We once had a cat that started peeing on the walls because it was unhappy about its new "brother".

I whacked it with a baseball bat, then waited until the middle of the night and left the corpse on some schmuck's deck.
