A Columbus, Ohio man was arrested for trying to feed a kitten to his pet alligator. Shawn Wright, 18, was charged with animal cruelty. Neighbors saw the kitten climbing up the inside of the 3-foot long alligator's cage, hanging on to the side. It would fall down and climb back up. Finally, it escaped before being eaten. When animal control officers arrived, Wright screamed, "I can do whatever I want with the cat! It's a stray and it doesn't matter what happens to it!"

So, did it escape or not? It can't do both. It either escaped or it was eaten.

What's the difference in a "feeder" mouse from the pet store or a chicken from the coop and a stray cat that will be put down at the local shelter anyway.
They should hire this guy to get rid of the unadoptable cats for them. Contract animal control and feed the wildlife. Kill two birds with one stone.

I like cats but I don't understand why this is considered cruelty to animals. The alligator has to eat too. We (non-retarded) humans eat all sorts of animals every single day. Just because something is cute and purrs when you scratch it's belly that makes it taboo?
People are silly.

When I went to DC last month, there were all kinds of activists around.
One girl was trying to get people to stop eating chicken. One of her arguments was that "Chickens are smarter than cats & dogs."
After she told me that, my response was "Yes, but chickens are more delicious."
You just can't argue with logic like that.

if chickens are more delicious, that means you've eaten cats and dogs before to make such a statement. recent business travel to the far east? is it true they'll eat anything with four legs that's not a table?

If you're a meat eater and you wouldn't eat a properly prepared cat or dog then you're a pansy.
Meat is meat. It's all yummy.

One problem with feeding stray cats to gators is how can you be sure it's actually a stray and doesn't have an owner? Also, couldn't the guy humanely kill the cat first rather than feeding it live to an alligator?

Do bad things never happen in front of smart people? Or do the smart people just not want to be quoted in the media?
Whenever I read the news or see a news story where there have been witnesses, they always choose the most bum-Frost stupid people to speak.
"And then the kitten got out. And I was all excited because I was like 'run kitty, run!'" Sims said.

OK, I didn't care much until I saw how FREAKIN CUTE that kitty is! And there was no need to throw the poor thing. But I have to say that, had the kitty died, he would have had one hell of a story to tell in cat heaven. "I was eaten by an alligator, how 'bout you?"

a lot of it is the media, I never knew how frustrating talking to the media is, you have to talk real slow, use small words, and be sure you don't say anything that can be twisted around to start a Shakespeare storm against you even if you are innocent.

I have no problem with eating meat. I have no problem with feeding an alligator. I do, however, have a big problem with treating a kitten like an object and throwing it into a sidewalk. If I ever met that guy, I'd break his damn legs.

I was in a pet store recently and saw a cage full of little white mice. I said to the clerk, "Oh, how cute! You have so many--you must sell a lot of these as pets."
She said, "Not many as pets, most are sold as food."
I said, "Food? People eat mice?"
She looked at me in disgust and said, "Um, for their snakes?"
Me--"Oh."
