What's yours? I like Dominos. You may be thinking HUH?, but it's cause I'm cheap. I'd rather pay $15 for 3 lavishly under-topped pizzas with not-so good crust as opposed to shelling out $12 for a big pizza lathered with oil and a big, thick cheese layer that will eventually make my arteries clogged .

We have a local place here on the island called Moon River Pizza. It kicks the ass of any pizza place. Ever.
All fresh ingredients, the grate the freaken' cheese in front of your face, make their own sasauge and peperoni and make their own marinara. Want a white pizza? Their pesto is wonderful. Low on the grease too.

A recent find for me is Joe's Inn. They make a good spinach and mushroom.
I like Pizza Hut for their pan crust and stuffed crust. Dominoes does have a very tasty thin crust pizza.
Papa John's is pretty good, because they use fresh ingredients, and you can tell.
My husband likes what he calls sloppy pizza - when you pick it up, the toppings threaten to slide right off, so you have to fold it in half to keep it in.

Depends on my mood. If I want a thick crust pizza with pounds of toppings, I have to drive out to Issaquah to go to the Flying Pie Pizzeria. They have a couple in Portland also. Tons of cheese, toppings and grease.
But if I want a nice flat pizza, Pagliacci's all they way.

Pizza 73, which is a locally-based chain, is pretty damn good and it's cheap. Boston Pizza, another locally-based chain, is also pretty good, although it's pretty expensive for pizza. Boston Pizza also loses points for switching from 'Cliff from Cheers' to Howie Mandel in their advertisements.
As for chains you crazy Americans have actually heard of, Pizza Hut is pretty good. And I worked there part-time when I was in Grade 12 so I guess you could say their pizza is awesome.

Panago is expensive, Yet delicious. And their dip sauces are wicked. I recommend the Chicken Club.
On the other hand, Chicago Deep Dish is disgusting, greasy, and those stupid Frosters can't deal with their kitchen grease well enough, So it drips over next door into our club, onto the basement floor.
I guess thats not a good "On the other hand" statement.

The Papa John's garlic dip makes me swoon.
When I was at UVA, a popular treat was Chanelo's cheese bread sticks. I had no idea what that was supposed to be till I ordered one. Its basically a pizza crust with melted cheese on it, cut into strips. Marinara sauce was provided as a dip. Ah, the memories.

I worked in a local pizza place here in Minneapolis a few years back. My boss was always complaing at how high his food costs were. What he never knew was that I was constantly giving pizza's and lazagna out to my roommates out the back door. They would take it to our house, which was directly across the street and we would pig out for days. He started to catch on when we had my boss's brother, whom we were friends with, over one night and he saw the stack of old pizza boxes that reached almost from our kitchen counter to the ceiling.

I had the best pizza of my life in Florida last year. It was 18 inches, EIGHTEEN! And was piled high with chicken and extra cheese. Oh, and we got chips and garlic bread with it, and it all came to $20, which is so cheap I was positive they undercharged us.
That's it, I am so moving there.
So. Hungry.

Okay, kids, listen up.
Drive a big stake in on the corner of 6th Avenue and 11th Street in Manhattan and attach a 50 mile rope to it. If you can't reach the place with that rope, their pizza sucks. Sorry.
Everyone who thinks Chicago or Boston has great pizza joints is from Chicago or Boston.
Papa John's sucks.
Pizza Hut sucks.
Dominos sucks the hardest.
The best pizza in the world is at Nunzio's, on Hylan Boulevard in Staten Island.
The best near my house is Big Mike's in Harriman, and the best near my job is Paulies, on Route 3, a couple of miles west of Giants Stadium. Chris Garret, represent.
That is all.

2. Whistler, you just committed one of my 10 annoyances in life. There is nothing worse than a New Yorker (current or former) who goes around telling everyone else in the world how everything they have ever experienced in life pales in comparison to a similar experience in New York.
Non New Yorker: "I sure love [insert pizza chain]'s pizza."
New Yorker: "HA! You stupid piece of Shakespeare, you can't even compare your sorry excuse for pizza to the pies we have in the city!"
NNY: "But... I wasn't trying to compare, I was just..."
NY: "Stupid southerners."
NNY: "But I'm from Chicago. Anyhow, I'm sad because my mom was raped and stabbed last night."
NY: "Oh whatever. I get raped and stabbed all the time in the city. Your mom doesn't know raping and stabbing until she is raped and stabbed in New York."

I am a pizza snob. I grew up in Austin where there was a Mr. Gatti's on every corner. It is and always will be my most favorite pizza. A close second, in Houston, is Barry's. They put so much Shakespeare on top that there is little room for sauce, crust, or the shakey cheese.

There's a local place here called Mad Mushrooms. The pizza sucks more ass than a nurse-tech at an all night enema palace.
But the cheese sticks are the best ever. They put more cheese on the cheese sticks than they ever do on the pizza.
Somehow, one of my friends got the notion that it should be called sloppy ho ass. Probably because we paid to get that Shakespeare on an hourly basis. It will never be refered to anything other than sloppy ho ass.
Papa John's is ok. Pizza Hut is good in a clinch. Domino's is just cheap. Unfortunately, there's not much else around here. Cici's rates low, and Pizza Magia isn't even on the list.

I did a survey for Round Table not too long ago after they announced their Smokehouse Ranch pizza. I really hated doing that survey, it was making me hungry after I found out it had andouille sausage as a topping.
First they had to rate the pizza on several areas, and then had to choose a name for a new sauce they are coming up with. PLEASE let it be creamy garlic.
The callers were then compensated for their time, with a Round Table gift certificate. Not too bad for a survey that lasted anywhere between 5-10 minutes with good behavior.

Most of the mom and pop places around here suck. They put no effort into the crust and sauce, then they toss some mutz on there and call it a pizza.
Dominoes and Pizza Hut suck. Papa Ginos is better than both of them, though it's still not great.
Bertucci's is probably the best chain. Cooked in a brick oven with some really flavorful sauce.
I still haven't had pizza in the North End or East Boston, which I'm told have the best joints around.
And I too am sick of the NYC "we have the best of everything" attitude though the two times I have been there I've gone into some random mom and pop places and came out with some really Frost-ing good pizza.
I think the problem is that most of the mom and pop places everywhere else hire uncaring teenagers who are unable to toss dough and handle a real oven so they make it easy for them and also cut costs by using Shakespearety frozen dough, rolled out with an electric roller, covered with canned sauce and way too much cheese.
On the other hand, a lot of the places in NYC have been there for a billion years and the employees are all part of the family, raised from day one to know how to make a pizza with fresh sauce and hand-tossed dough.
The best pizza in my area uses homemade dough, hand tossed by me, with fresh tomato sauce, cooked on my charcoal grill.
Word.

Bacon makes any pizza better. If you have a one topping pizza, and it's bacon, and you add more bacon, it is better. 3 topping with bacon is to date the best tasting pizza I've had. I like to imagine if you eat a 5 x bacon pizza, you see Jesus, and by 10x bacon, you have caused the rapture.

Bacon, clams, garlic, oregano. Oh, I think I know what I want for my birthday breakfast!

Having spent my first 16 years plus numerous holidays since then eating my mother's cooking, it takes more than a clams casino pizza to derail my digestive system.
