What with all you sickos hooking up and getting married and such, I thought you might be interested in some free real estate.

Homesteading is back.

Chickens, did you ever get that little piece of land you placed a bid on?

Nah. You need 20% down on undeveloped land instead of the normal 10% down on everything else. But it is still availble and the owner and I have an agreement.

I have all my liquid funds tied up in the new road I recently built for my housing development. When that clears in the next couple of weeks, I already have all the lots sold. I should be able to get it then without even having to borrow.

Needless to say, Christmas 2006 should be in the mountaintop log cabin.

Chix, did you develop the property right by your own house ?

I have an uncle that went halves on 100 acres and a nice bass pond with another friend of his when I was about eight. Over the years they each built their big ranch homes, and raised their families as neighbors. I used to go up and spend whole months at a time with them every summer. (till I realized I was just free labor, chopping stickers, and cleaning and feeding the animals every day)

After about ten years when they were nice and settled in, his buddy got a divorce, and paved a road right along the fence, and built forty townhouses where we used to hunt quail and catch big old large-mouths. My uncle is still miffed I'm sure. Last time I was up there, there was trash all along the road that led to the development, not tons, but I felt like the old Indian shedding a tear.

Actually, I dream of my own little Earth of Peace. Maybe in a snowglobe perhaps. I'd shake it maniacally and scream, "WHERE'D YOUR DREAMS GET YOU, HUH?! WHERE?!"

It'll be a nice match for the GAB server error page.

...Coincidentally, I just got today in the mail a new tax assessment for my 'own little piece of Earth'. My house was only re-assessed about 3 or 4 years ago, and then it jumped about 50%. According to this new valuation, my assessment has skyrocketed a whopping some 140%!!

It's (almost) enough to turn a guy republican!

Also Daisy, repubs like property taxes, because that way they can spend all the tax money on whatever local crap they want, like good schools for only their kids, and let everyone else go screw. And high property values and taxes act as a buffer to the low income darkies who want to move into your town and steal your stuff.

Does anyone remember the mix of fenway sod? I know it's mostly Rye and Bluegrass. How awesome would it be to grow up the Rye to seed, and then use it for either bread or home-brewing? mmmmm... delicious Fenway...
