Vote for ZUG!
A comedy conversation by John Hargrave 128,751 73
08/29/2005 11:10 AM 572 views

We haven't crashed an online poll in a while, so here's a new one. BusinessWeek is running a "Best of the Web" poll, and they have a humor category.

They chose four sites as the "official" contenders, and how these four sites got on the list is anyone's guess. I've only heard of two of them, and I've been doing this for ten years. (Just remember, this is BusinessWeek's idea of online comedy.)

Foolishly, however, they also left a blank for a write-in vote. As of Friday, there were only 100 or so votes for the category, so I'm sure we can write in AT LEAST that many for ZUG. So I'd appreciate a vote for ZUG. Please, only one vote per person. We don't want a repeat of the Aspen Comedy Fiasco.

Click here to vote for ZUG.

And please, don't let Squeamish find out about this.

Mr. Sir:

I can't find a specific IP blocker in Firefox extensions, however I did find two ways to block the refering url. First is typing about:config in your url bar and changing it globally to set send referrer header to 0. Secondly, one could change the listed referrers per site visited.

Not that I would recommend the usage of such a product, but it's good to know what's out there.

If a particular site was tracking IP addresses though, then these tactics wouldn't help.

I don't understand finance for Shakespeare because my mind doesn't work that way. I'd run screaming from any engineering building because it would have me for lunch. Economics kicked my ass every time. Tax bludgeoned me to death. Statistics, meh, we got along fair to middling. My point is that different people understand different things differently and it isn't a slur on anyone else.

If the "total votes" includes write-ins, then either A) The percentages for the four choices they list cannot add up to 100%, or B) They need to list a fifth catagory "Other" with an associated percentage.

If "total votes" does not include write-ins, then we can find out how many votes everyone got, but the vote clicker keeps moving up.. and, other than us, I can't imagine too many people are up right now voting in a Business Week poll.
