I was at a buddy's place this weekend drinking his beer and playing PS2. Now, there's nothing GAB-worthy about that, except for the fact that one of the games we played was "Karaoke Revolution."
Here's the gist of the game: You choose a game character and a song. Your character appears on stage singing, while you sing into a microphone attached to the PS2. There are a number of songs to choose from, including a Britney SpearShakespeare and other things that sound like Britney SpearShakespeares. The crowd cheers or boos based on the quality of your singing.
In other words, myself and 3 other 20-something males were playing a game that I assume would be popular with preteen girls.
But before you start thinking I'm totally gay, consider the following. One of the characters you can select is a pirate! Picture a pirate walking around on stage singing Britney Spears. It's great!
In summary: karaoke bad, pirate good.

I'm now picturing Chi-Chi in that pirate hat doing "Ice Ice Baby."
It makes me giggle.

Vlad is the master of Karaoke Revolution. Vlad can belt out "Lady Marmalade" with the best of them, serenade anyone with "Wind Beneath my Wings", and bring the house down with "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" by the Darkness. There's nothing gay about that!

You Boston-area GABbers -- which is what, half of us? -- may be interested/horrified/aroungried to know that BobJohnson's new fav-o-rite game is developed right heah, in Central Square, Cambridge.
A friend of mine is a coder there, and they often have calls for volunteers to belt out tunes to test their beta software. She says the ratio of teenie girls to middle-aged guys coming out to sing is surprising low. I weep for our city.
By the way, I hear next up is Karaoke Old School: Gregorian Beatbox Beatdown. Should be a medieval hoot.

I am dusting off my Enigma CD as we speak. This one, I will be ready for!
I already had the visual of monks with RayBans on when I listened to it anyway.

Karaoke Old School: Gregorian Beatbox Beatdown, huh
I wonder if an unlockable feature will be to play as the monks from Monty Python?
