What the hell is Honda thinking?

Has anyone seen these "Mr. Opportunity" commercials? Do they honestly think that these commercials are going to sell cars? I honestly think they'd do a better job selling cards if they paid someone to take a big steamy Shakespeare on the hood of one of their cars and showed that on TV.

Since the 2005 American Honda sales highlights were:
*All-time record American Honda total sales of 1,462,472 (up 5.2 percent)
*12th consecutive annual sales increase
*10th consecutive yearly sales record
*All-time record light truck sales of 624,650 (up 13.7 percent)
*13th consecutive year of record light-truck sales
Clearly, they're going to give a major Frost what you think and hinge all major marketing decisions on your opinion. Or not.

Honda could make all their cars with a factory installed demon posession a la Christine and brag about it in the commercial and still be number 1.
As long as teenage kids can buy a cheap car and make it look rediculous and act like it is a performance car just because they punched holes in the muffler, they will be #1.

Ever beer to a junkyard? Ever notice that half the cars in stock are Honda? Honda is an OK car, but seriously, absolutely no better than a Pontiac, which sells Shakespearety. The only difference is the aftermarket availibility of parts, which is in itself pretty telling of it's quality, if it was so great and that was the only reason, why do Honda parts account for something like 40% of the aftermarket?
So, you keep telling yourself that if it makes you happy, Taco.
Like I said, they ARE a good car, I will not argue that, but they are highly overrated and sure they will last 10 years, no problem, but so will ANY new car on the market as long as you don't get into an accident and change the oil. Shakespeare, you don't even need to change the sparkplugs for 100k anymore!

Showmaster, you're either looking for a Honda beating or you're a Guam Baby lookin' to prove your stupidity.
It's been well-researched (and published) by several independent firms that Honda's cars have very high owner satisfaction ratings, holds excellent resale value and overall performance class for class ranges from very good to excellent.
Pontiac's line, however, ranges from poor to average ratings and the reliability of their cars doesn't even come close to matching the Honda line.
Google is your friend. Use it, Guam Baby.
Love and hugs,
HC

Yes, generally from the aftermarket availibility and generally, owners are satisfied with their cars, or else the mfr. would not be in business or keep that model. A majority of cars have a high satisfaction rate.
holds excellent resale value
It's the economic principal of supply and demand, everyone wants Hondas, so they sell high, that's how everything works.
and overall performance class for class ranges from very good to excellent.
Again, a majority of cars do.
Harvard Chick, I said more than once, they are good cars, and I mean it. All of your points are true, to a lot of people they are the best cars on the market, and one thing they do have is price. Honda is damn cheap for what you get, however they are not the best car on the market. See, I know cars fairly well, and I don't think I would ever buy one, there is like 4 other cars I would prefer before them.
If you are happy with your car, good, then you have a very valuable car. If you don't like your car, it will be a piece of Shakespeare waste of money no matter what the price was, just like I just posted in another thread.

I wasn't saying they're the "best car on the market", rather, in their class they rank very well.
To say a car is the best car is a subjective reality and only valid to one's own perception. And subsequently cannot be argued as invalid due to its immanence.

If you accept the conventional Gab wisdom that the general populace is composed primarily of sub-cretinous C.H.U.D's with no taste, then the popularity of Honda's would actually seem to argue AGAINST them.

Don't argue with a car dealer. Car dealers have to brainwash themselves that their very existence isn't the sole cause of human de-evolution (here's some good news: bike messengers are even bigger contributors of trodlodyte genes than you are) so when they argue their point, what they are actually doing is fighting themselves to keep from putting a bullet in their brains.
Let the wookie win.

Perhaps there are more Hondas in junkyards because more people drive them? In 10 years I'm sure junkyards will be packed full of Ford SUVs.
My 1990 Accord (which died when my dad totaled it) had less problems than my brother's 2004 Grand Am has had. My '01 Civic non-hybrid gets better mileage than any American-made vehicle that I can think of. Hondas are superior in so many ways.

Aww, come on, cheap shot. I don't lie, cheat or anything else to anyone. I ALWAYS tell the truth, and have even referred people to other car dealerships, and actually strangely enough, to Honda dealers if that car seemed to fit them better.
I owned an Acura a few years back, and it was my favorite car I ever had, so that makes it a great car. Like I said, any car you are happy with is a good car, and that's all that matters.

Yes and you're wrong. Ever look at the cars driving down the street? The only cars you ever see on the street over 6 years old are old Hondas, Acuras, and Toyotas.
It's funny that you would choose to compare Hondas to Pontiacs which are the Shakespearetest cars that GMC makes and GMC is second only to Chrysler for Shakespearetiest car.
I remember the only Pontiac my family ever owned, my parent's replaced the harmonic balancer on it at least 10 times and it was recalled countless times for things like faulty seat belts and various engine problems including the harmonic balancer. It had practically every part in the engine compartment replaced.
The only major problem I've had with a Honda was when I took my previous one, which I traded in after 10 years for 4.5k, for it's routine maintenance and I get a call from the dealer asking if they can keep the car a few hours longer because they found a crack in the engine block and they wanted to fix it for free.
