Seems he was great with the croc's but not so great with the stingrays.

Much better ambassador for Oz than that slimy, slimy Paul Hogan.

SO, if he was filming a TV special when this happened, that means there were cameras there. Which means it's likely that him getting impaled would be on film.
If Animal Planet was smart, they would make a special out of that. Sure, it would be tasteless, but it would bring in the ratings. Hell, I'd watch it. And after feeding raw chicken to his crocks with his newborn son in his other hand, his family has no right to bitch about something being tasteless.

Doesn't Daggy live fairly close to his zoo? If we took donations and paid her a lot of money to do it, I wonder if we could get her to go leave a stuffed stingray at the front gates.
How much money does it take to buy enough vodka for an aussie to get drunk enough to do something like that?

And do you mean Bindi his daughter, or his favorite croc? Because he loved the name so much he he named his daughter that after using the name for one of his "pets".
At least his daughter's middle name was original.
No, wait. That's right. His daughter's middle name is the same as that of his dog. I have a feeling his daughter was just going to grow up to hate him if he had lived to see her become and adult, so it's probably best that he died now.

He should have known the risks -
There are 480 known species of stingray and "a stingray lashes its tail only as a defensive measure when it is caught, stepped on, or otherwise disturbed", says Museum Victoria.
According to a 1995 publication, Dangerous Marine Creatures - Field Guide for Medical Treatment, stingrays are the largest of the venomous fish.
The tail of the stingray carries at least one barb or spine that may be up to 37 centimetres long.
"Penetration of a body cavity by a stingray barb may cause major morbidity and even death, particularly with cardiac injury, and requires early surgical referral and management," it states.
Penetrating cardiac injuries have generally been fatal, the publication said.
In 1938, an adult women died after a stab wound to the heart by a stingray. The autopsy showed that the ventricles had been completely transfixed by the barb.
An Australian soldier died in 1945 after a stab wound to the left heart while swimming in seawater baths near Melbourne, Victoria.

I wonder if the phrase "Jumped the sting ray" will replace "Jumped the shark" now ?

"In an sad twist, it has been reported that his new documentary was aimed at demystifying the stingray."
So now we know that something with a huge poisoned spike on it's flexible whiplike tail is
dangerous.
Well that mystery is solved. Thanks Steve!

Hey, TTJ, why do you feel so much anger towards Steve Irwin? He was a good guy and loved animals. And that whole thing thing about feeding a croc while holding his child? He's been handling crocs all his life. It may have been stupid, but wasn't as dangerous as it seemed. So cut the guy a bit of slack. Other celebrities get accused of rape and child molestation. This guy wouldn't even cuss. He was a good guy.

Also, please please please, don't leave a stingray in front of the zoo. It's one thing to make jokes on the internet. It's quite another to actually hurt the grieving family.
Also, Timothy Treadwell's a dumbass. "I'm the only thing standing between these bears and extinction"? How Frost-ing arrogant is that? He thought they were teddy bears. He did not respect the animals, and that's why he died. Steve at least loved animals more than his ego.

In Sea World once, I showed my daughter, then three, how to pet a stingray once and had the following conversation:
Her: Why do they call it a stingray?
Me: Because they sting you like a bee.
Her (pulling her hand out of the water): Will it kill you?
Me: No, no. It just hurts like muthaFrosta.
I guess next time I have to rephrase the following two lines to:
Her (pulling her hand out of the water): Will it kill you?
Me: No, it just hu...AAAAUUUUGGGHHH! Frost! Frost! Frost! OH MY GOD!!!! SOMEONE HEEEEELLLLLLP MEEEEEEE!! MY BONES ARE MELTING!!! CALL *gasp* 9-1-1! I stepped on a stingray in San Diego. It hurt, but not nearly as bad as other things I've done to myself. I thought I'd stepped on a piece of broken glass until the lifeguard said I was the third person with a stingray hit that day.
You would've thought they would have closed the beaches or at least given me a ride back to base in an ambulance. They just gave me a little gauze and I went back to drinkin' on the beach.

I mentioned that I didn't know him, so I'm not going to get choked up about it, why cry when you can laugh, etc... I refrained from telling him that the guy's been dead for a fair amount of time now, and his body is most probably cold by now, unless they're keeping it warm in the oven.

The fact that there are going to be jokes from everywhere in the next few days is just a sign of how large an impact he had on all of us.
He made his point about the wildlife he loved by being so over the top about it. Marlon Perkins never had that large an effect on people.
In fact I don't even know if he's dead or not.

Briham, I don't actually have anything again Steve Irwin. I was angry about the feeding the croc with his kid in his hand, but not angry enough to wish him harm. And you can tell me that he's been around them all his life and knew what he was doing, but I don't buy it. I don't give a damn how long you've been around animals, you don't take a newborn around anything that could possibly eat your child. Not even a Frost-ing dog.
And I was kidding about the stuffed stingray. Yes, I thought it was funny to mention in on GAB. But I would never actually want anyone to do that. And I'm pretty sure that Daggy wouldn't do that even if I paid her. So I felt safe in jokin about it.

I would like to take this time to point out that the two funniest threads this month revolve around dead people.
Excellent job people, carry on.

You think this is funny, you should've seen the big tsunami thread a couple of Christmases ago. Nothing brings out the funny around here like death. When I heard the news this morning, I had to get here before I missed anything.

Not to worry, he'll be back!
I would never blame an animal if it bit me, because I'm at fault, not them. I heal so quickly. If you cut my arm off I would grow a new one.

Apparently, they did catch the act on video.
How long do you think it will be before it hits the internet? Or do you think it will be pay per view?
