If this mass implodes, the singularity it creates will suck in all matter for approximately 12.46 parsecs.

It doesn't change the fact that Janeway was the worst Trek captain ever, though.

1. There is no reason to send a gift late, you have pleanty of time to find something and send it out on time.

2. Harvard Chic I just e-mailed you back. I need your personal info (bra size, thong preference, etc.)

The pairing up is a super secret process and if I told you I would have to kill you.

3. Sarah: Gabbers are pretty generous with their gift giving, if you get someone and don't know what to send them I recommend creating a IM or e-mail account to contact that person and ask them what they like.

So solly, Al, I didn't feel I needed to put in that I searched and searched and searched for it a few months ago and that was why I stated "I didn't get to see his reaction." I figured that someone would be helpful enough to use their leet search skillz and find something I missed.

Also, I ordered it a week before X-mas, but they didn't print it and send it until after. I can't be blamed for what the company does. I sent a package with the other 95% of the gifts out and it arrived before the big day.

Damn. Hostile X-mas season started early this year.

You can't go wrong staying in that price range, depending on what you send and if it's multiple gifts, etc. Don't go above $50, unless you really want to, but don't expect to get that much from your SS. Also, put some thought into it and make it obscure, fun, and something you would want around your house, because we usually brag about how special or Shakespearety gifts are.

I got a great book of original Japanese haiku last year that I carry around in my messenger bag for a time killer. But that was just one item among many.

The first year I participated, Gabe got my name. Since he didn't know me at all, he did a little snooping and read through my livejournal, and even sent me emails from a fake account (I believe it was psanta_claws@yahoo.com) trying to gather info and feel out what I was like, etc. He was pretty much the best Secret Santa evAr.

The moral of the story is - it's not hard to find out what someone wants, even if you don't know anything about them.

This is getting too hysterical.

Last year I was in the Secret Santa thing at work; we all had to fill out a QUESTIONNAIRE. The person I had said they didn't like BEETS. Good Lord. So all the gifts she got from me were wrapped around a can of Aldi cheapo beets. I made it good -- Granny Panties wrapped around the beet can, 50 cents taped to a beet can, etc, Best thing about it is I was of course the first one accused, but I was so straight-faced that I was eliminated. While she opened her gift I would say "OH, who would do that" In the end she got a gift card.

I'll rephrase.. It's Secret Santa, not a bathroom buddy program. They don't juSt pair you off with someone.. that would sort of give away the "Secret" part if the person you have also has you.

Therefore - Aimless could have Bonky, Bonky could have ChiChi, and ChiChi could have Aimless. OMG!!1 A 3 PEOPLE SECRET SANTA! IT'S THE END TIMES!!1

Either that, or Aimless is a witch.

If you're a man, you most likely own it, fantasize about it, dayfream about it, talk about it... I feel no need to further that.

My SS last year got me stuff I really wanted, even though I didn't know I wanted it. She sent it on time. It arrived on time. It made my Kwanzaaaa that much more ng'gnob[click click]shambalala.

I speak not from bitterness but from common courtesy. If you can't get gifts and mail them by... uhh... whatever deadline, it's a very sure sign of you being an Emerson (not "you" meaning you Donk, but the general "you"). This is for Christmas, the holiday of togetherness and giving, not Hanukkah, the holiday of stinginess and banking clans.

Millie's cookies are like brightly colored crack. Once you get your fix you just have to have another. And another. And another. And then suddenly you find your self naked in the living room surrounded in crumbs with an empty glass of milk beside you and no idea how you got there.

My goals for this year:

1. Send Lupe the present I owe her from last year. (Can you e-mail me your address?)

B. Donate money to the fund for people who get stiffed.

I won't sign up, since I need to redeem myself for last year.. plus, I already have too many gabbers to buy presents for! What more do you want from me?!

Considering the amount of people signed up there should be WAY more money in the SS fund. Please, if you signed up try to donate at least $5. For those of you that have already donated, I thank you, and the people who end up getting stiffed becasue their SS wasn't loved enough as a child thanks you.

i tagged along w/ my host family to the fall fest at their oldest daughter's school (because alabama schools are fund-raising fools - something about people being to cheap to pay for them through taxes) this evening, and every one of the horses at the pony ride was a boy w/ a big old horse pecker swinging to and fro.

also, one of the horses farted. loudly. i was just as amused as the elementary school kid waiting in line.

A heads up to anyone shipping across the US/Canadian border:

DO NOT USE A COURIER COMPANY (like UPS, FEDEX, etc).

Since early this year, EVERYTHING shipped by courier, even if it was declared as Zero Value or as a Gift, has been subject to customs fees. I have been told by a friend who works in a customs brokerage firm that it has to do with new regulations; I don't really know the details, other than the anecdotal fact that I have been nailed by it several times already.

Use the US or Canadian postal services. Even if they do deliver via glacier riders.

...

Also, the private companies have more alert sniffer dogs.

Hi. Thanks for volunteering to run the SS program aimless, it can be thankless.

"Vote with your wallet" is my standard retort when people bitch about not liking a product or its rules and regulations.

If it is actually true that people specifically request who they will and won't get, well then it is time to take my own medicine. I am afraid I want no part of it - please to be removing my name.

Too bad, really, thus ends 4 or 5 years of tradition for me.

How is excluding someone from a SS program any different than hounding them unrelentingly until they leave, a past time that is not only permitted but actively encouraged here.

I only request victims because I have specific gifts in mind for them. I never make my requests who I will and won't participate with. And I'll not be upset if I don't get one of my requested victims.

Aimless, put Harvard's name back on that list. It's petty to exclude her because of an icon.

I am reminded of when I offered to do that Girl's of GAB calendar, and people got upset when I decided to exclude Trixxie on the basis that he was male. I was just thinking of that the other day, and I am willing to have another go at it (I still have all the images from the first time) and am willing to include Trix if people want it. I'll even come up with a few ideas for where the proceeds will go and let the masses vote on who gets the dough (charity, po' folks fund, next year's SS, etc.).

But please, remember, SS is all in fun. Let's keep it that way.

This place breeds thick skinned cruelty and exalts the ability to show no pity or kindness. It is considered the highest honour for the majority to smack down anyone foolish enough to show a vulnerability or weakness. I may deplore that fact (and have said so before, to great indifference), but I'm not foolish enough to deny it.

It is not surprising that some people have conditions on how they participate in a gift exchange here.

The truly wondrous thing is that so many are willing to participate under ANY conditions.

It is not surprising that some people have conditions on how they participate in a gift exchange here.

It may not be surprising, but it wasn't a part of the last 5 years of SS here. Now that it is, I won't participate.

When all is said and done, I'm sure no one will care but me, but there you have it.

And now I am sure people are sick of hearing me talk about it, so I'll try to shut up about it for at least a few hours.

While I don't belive Demo was speaking directly about my last post, or me in particular, I will elaborate on what I meant.

If I found the perfect item to send to Whistler, I wouldn't send it to Mufftaur. I simply request Whistler. If I didn't get Whistler, I'd find something else for Mufftaur, and send the perfect item to Whistler all by itself.*

*Just examples.

Dinesh is the best one of the best santas ever, and if he's not getting a present, I don't want to be involved.

It's fair enough Aimless being able to veto participants, we do have a lot of n00bs we know nothing about. But excluding a GABber because she or anyone else doesn't like her is just childish.

For the record SS is really pissing me off this year. Yes, I allow people to request not to receive from specific people. Why? Because the Internet is a scary Frost-ing place and I WILL NOT give your personal info to anyone you do not want to receive it. For those of you that have a problem with that you can kiss my ass.

I booted HC because there were enough people that didn't want her that it became a pain in the ass for me to keep track of who I could give her too. I keep track of who you gave and received from last year, if you are over seas, if you can't have an over seas person, if your address will be changing, and if you have any special needs (we have a freaky vegan and people who can't have anything bad on the outside of the box). HC was just one more thing to keep track of and I didn't want to deal with it. I only have my work computer so I have to do this all in the mornings before work. For the record, I personally had no problem with her until her little rant in the icon thread and as stated above that is not why I booted her. I think she is a little off her rocker but whatever. No one here is normal.

If after all this she still wants to be in, fine but I need to know by the end of the day. DiniShakespeareook you off the list.

Now, in the TRUE spirit of the season...I hope you all burn in hell.

Even though this has already been covered, I feel the need speak. I don't do it often, so either listen up or jack off, whichever is more appealing to you.

-I don't care who I get, or who gets me, for Secret Santa. I haven't done SS before because I didn't feel like I knew anyone well enough to get an adequate gift. I still don't know any of you well enough, but I don't care anymore.

-Aimless, you deserve some respect for putting up with all this bullShakespeare and continuing to organize the SS. Just because we have some slack-asses and some people have been stiffed does not mean you're not doing a good job.

-I agree that some people would rather not give out their addresses to certain other people, and there's nothing wrong with that. Requesting to get or not get people because you think they're stupid or you don't like them only makes you an ass.

-This post is way too long.

I agree that it is against the spirit of SS to ask not to get certain people. I personally don't care who I get or who gets me.

I also agree that the internet adds a different aspect to the whole thing. However, if someone is really that worried about someone else knowing his/her personal info, maybe that person should think twice about participating.

Another thing, when I decided to participate, it was with the understanding that I was not controlling the whole thing, so whatever the person in charge decided was what would happen. I think she made clear at the outset that she was calling the shots.

I don't really have much of an opinion on the specifics. I don't really have a point, either, it seems. Whatever.

We most respectfully disagree and we are not amused.

If there's 100 people in the group and you have a legitimate concern about four of them having your address, then you should be able to exclude them as a potential SS. There's nothing unreasonable about that, especially when all you know about someone is--for example--that they make a lot of references to "choking a bitch."

If 80 of 100 people say they don't want someone having their address, it's a big red flag that says "This person is to Xmas what lemon juice is to an open episiotomy wound."
