We (three of us on IRC cracked it, in about ten minutes) presume the p|l|c on that first page was page / line / character in his book. Even without it, you don't have to be an Apache to figure out it's a URL: three letters -dot - eight letters - dot - three letters - slash five letters - slash - five letters. c0coeyed.com was a co-conspirator, so taht was eask; we got the prank directory on the second guess (the first was /image/ and you really should protect those directories, dude), then /super/ took one more guess. Luckily, I have Photoshop so running the macro to unscramble the PSD file was simple. $40 grand for a glorified acrostic. I hope you saved some for the divorce lawyers, you moron.

Wow, got awfully quiet. Do I get my cigar now, Sir John? By the way, is an unpaid ad really a prank? Other than your smugness, what is the difference between you and the ATHF folks - subverting our national security procedures for the sake of a free advert (or at least cheap, compared to what folks paid for a real Super Bowl commercial)? Do you now know how The Fonz felt when he made it over that shark, Sir John? Can you see?

So let me get this straight. The prank doesn't go as planned, and the "message" isn't readable. But instead of just admitting that "hey, Shakespeare happens"... you get Coleridgeeyed to help you out, and come up with some random page/line/character scavenger hunt that will eventually lead to a secret page on Coleridgeeyed, whereupon one must solve some bullShakespeare algebra word problems to come up with some numbers, which must then be applied to a 51 layer photoshop file so that when the correct numbered layers are viewed/hidden, we are presented with the oh-so-secret message that we all would've seen before, had the prank just Frost-ing worked the way it was supposed to in the first place? Boo Frost-ing hiss. John, if I lived in Boston, I'd bitch slap you just on principle.

Just bumping this since someone emailed me and told me about the video and press release. So just to I understand, the fifth post on the Super Stunt Part#6 discussion on 2/15 says "I still think it says zug.com", and he's the one who cracked the code. Okay... Then why did JH keep linking videos to show it better? And why would the secret pages exist? And why would he create a sock puppet account (loudward) to both post the enhanced video to YouTube, and then to claim to find the first secret page and post a link? And why the second page, and why the Photoshop tricks, and why the math puzzle, and why the phone number? When the whole thing was figured out a month earlier? Here's what I think. JH got frustrated that maybe 9 of the 93.1 million people saw enough of his advertisement to take an educated guess at the content. So he created the YouTube video with a drastically enhanced final shot showing the URL in the crowd. But people still didn't care. I'll even give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he had the secret pages up and active from the start, but no one found them, so he used the same sock puppet acount to post a link. After which me and two friends (the only people to even give a hint of a shiite any more) found the rest of the pages in about ten minutes. Yay, cue the french horns! Confirmation of the message, of JH's genius, of his marketing savvy and intrepid planning and prankishness. The reaction from the media, from the Zuggies, from everyone but about six haters and Phuc? Crickets.

(part II) I'm sorry, I don't care if I get credit for cracking the link to the second page and unscrambling the photo or not, it's not about that at all. It's about this continued bullshiite about a secret message. It was an ADVERTISEMENT. If the secret message was a URL, you shouldn't have to go to that URL first to unlock it. Common friggin' sense, people. JH just keeps digging the hole deeper and deeper. And don't even get me started on the press release. That is just the most egregious self-serving steaming pile of ostrich offal I've ever read.

From the pressie: The secret message was spotted by sharp-eyed TiVo viewers in blue lettering on the stadium's east side during the halftime show. It led Internet sleuths on a month-long treasure hunt through Hargrave's new book, PRANK THE MONKEY, ultimately revealing the address of his Web site (zug.com). C'mon, Phuc, man up, me and Sister Mary Brown-eye are waiting.

Gee, imagine that...the Media Frost-ing up some infomation ....'cause you know that never happens. You do realize that JH wrote both the book and the press release, right? That those are his words I quoted up there? Him writing about his own book. Are you saying he misquoted himself? I know it went quick, but you did see the bit in the video where he's talking about the stunt, and he shows the roman numeral that makes up the URL of the first secret page? And it's a picture of the book? And the code to unlock the second secret page, you realize those three-digit entries sent you to specific pages and lines of text and characters in the book? His book? The one he tried to promote by putting a giant free advertisement on TV at halftime of the superbowl? Is any of this getting through? I swear I feel like I'm in a Monthy Python skit talking to you retards, I half expect a giant shoe to crush me.

Regardless, you seem to be missing much of the point as well, that being that you spent a Shakespeare load of time (and still are) trying to prove to us that it exists and we really don't Frost-ing CARE. I may not be an 'old timer' as I'm coming up on my first full year of posting, but it still doesn't change the fact that we find this site a great way to blow off steam, and have a few laughs. And I think you'd be hard pressed to find ANYONE who's a regular, no mater how long they've been here, to say that John's pranks are poor, even if they don't always go as planned. He's got the guts (and obviously the bank) to pull OFF some of this Shakespeare that most of us can only sit back and think "Gee, wouldn't it be funny if..." It sounds more to me that your a bitter little Frost because YOU got "served" by being tricked into spending a month figuring out all the clues only to find out what can best be summed up by the lines of 'A Christmas Story': "A crumby COMMERCIAL?!" If your going to stick around, FINE, but stop arleady with these long "I was right, bow down to me you retard" posts already...WE DON'T GIVE A Frost.

Yeah, because misquoting and taking out of context statements to suit your own purposes will will you points. Frost it...John already knows what I think, but since you seem bent on getting your point accross multiple times when we've all basically said "We get it...we don't care...shut the Frost up" it's obviously what gets you off.

Most press releases are written by the people seeking publicity, NOT by the press. DUH. They are released to the press, thus the name. Anyone who didn't figure out that the message was "Zug.com--that's Z-U-G-dot-com" within the first few seconds of reading about the prank is dumb. John probably says that phrase in his sleep. Other than that, I can't really get myself to give a Shakespeare about this idiocy right now. I seem to have a bad flu.

Not sure if this was pointing it to me or not, but yes, I am a aware of this (was a journalist major before changing to English Lit)...My point (when I had one) was that even if/when a press release has been sent to the press, there is still a wide possibility that in reprinting said statement, they (the press) Frost it up...it's happened before and will continue to happen as long as there are humans involved. That being said, lets just let the robots and Tramalgaforians (sp?) take over and get on with our lives now.

SeanQ, you did all the deducing, sleuthing, and otherwise paid more attention to John's hints than some of the long-term visitors to Zug and GAB. That being said, they don't like having their noses rubbed in it. And you could prove yourself the second coming of Christ here but we're all gonna snipe you because that's the kind of petty, insecure, self righteous freaks that reside here. Good job on the detective work. This is your recognition. Judging from your writing you have some wit and sense; start contributing some funny and I think you'll find the place pretty enjoyable.

If you think you're the first and only person to think that prank was a failure, think again. Long-time GABbers have shared the same sentiment. I couldn't care either way, but honestly you're just a show offish prick. Ooo la la, you unlocked the "secret page" that anyone with half a brain didn't need to know what the lights were supposed to say. And you think the prank blew. Big Frost-ing deal. Either get over yourself and contribute, or GTFO.
