It might be conjunctivitis. My kids have had it, so I know what to do.

Rub the irritated eye, getting your fingers moist, then rub the other eye with those same fingers. Go back and forth like that between the eyes for a while. Repeat a couple of times a day.

Eventually, you'll transfer enough of the good, disease-fighting bacteria from the unaffected eye over to the bad eye to kill the infection.
