Well, Friday I go and pick my son up a Doberman puppy for his birthday. He was so excited. We named him Prince and he is/was 9 weeks old. Friday night and Sat, the puppy was very sad. I thought he was depressed being taken away from his family. He was eating and drinking fine, just very very quiet and not playful at all. Well this morning I wake up to my son screaming that the dog is dead. THE FREAKING DOG IS DEAD. My 7 year old son found him dead by our front door. Can we say tramatic? Anyways, I call the people that I got him from and they refunded my money and are having an autopsy done on Prince. They also gave me a new free dog. Its a 3 year old English Setter. Her name is Buttercup and she is pretty much awesome. SO I guess it all worked out in the end but this weekend totally sucked. I keep imagining my son taking a dead dog for a walk on a leash. My husband thinks I'm heartless cause I've been making dead dog jokes. Thats just how I deal with it I suppose. I got a free dog though, that rocked.

Jesus Christ, that's awful. Do you want one of our dogs? We have too many. You can have the annoying goddamn Sheltie that my grandparents dumped on us. His name is Chance, actually... but the similarities end there. He barks constantly and he bites. Well, I don't know if you bite, Chance, but he doesn't bite in the good way like I'm guessing you would.

<serious> Most likely the necropsy will show that the puppy had Parvo. It hits puppies very quickly and because it doeShakespeare that quickly it's almost impossible to treat in a dog that young. If your other new dog came from the same people you need to have it tested for heartworm. While the two conditions aren't related, if we see one at a breeder we'll often times see the other one as well. </serious>

At least you guys don't wind up with strays. Last Saturday, somebody dropped off a dog, there was evidence of a collar, and somebody fed and trained her, so now looks like I have a fourth dog in the pack. I live right outside of the city near the innerstate, so people drop off animals every now and then instead of being responsible and taking them to the humane society.

All you people complaining about taking in stray cats and dogs - keep this in mind... When I was 13, my family moved into a new home in a new subdivison. One block from our home was still acrage. One afternoon, I saw someone loading a horse onto a horse float. I asked where they were taking it. They were selling the land and no longer wanted the horse so were having it put down. Fast forward 20 mins... I arrive home to out tiny 1/5th acre block with my new pet horse. The previous month I had brought home a stray dog, a pregnant cat [who then had six kittens and due to dual functioning overies was pregnant again], a rabbit, and a galah.

Cats never die. THEY. NEVER. Frost-ing. DIE. Funny thing about this, the cat in our family with the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy had a small stroke about an hour after I typed this. One eye was completely dilated and the other one wasn't and her face looked kinda contorted for a while. Well, after 3cc's of Karo Syrup, a baby aspirin and a pepcid that night, I took her to the vet the next morning and she was doing much better. The vet said she either had a small stroke or just a potassium deficiency, which was indicated by the bloodwork. But she's fine now. Not bad for a cat that nine months ago was given six months to live. SEE???
