Form what I've gathered from college lawsuits, if you did it you're Frosted. If you can prove you downloaded music you paid for (and for whatever reason didn't burn directly form the CD), downloaded music that is not available from other means (indie artists who release their stuff on torrents or p2p networks), or downloaded clips under 30 seconds and used them for non profitable sound bytes, then you have a case.

Also if you can show there's reason to believe someone was abusing your internet connection (ie no firewall, no IP address protection), you might be able to get out of it.

download a version of VNC, radmin, etc and set it to run int he background. Turn on windows remote desktop sharing. Enable the Windows guest account and allow it for remote access. Wipe out the system, security and app logs. screw with the windows firewall.

Basically make it look like your PC is wide open to remote access.

I can get you a copy of back orifice (yes, it's a real program name) or something else that you would normally only find on a compromised machine.

Call the techs from the college and play dumb, tell them you don't have any file sharing Shakespeare installed and tell them to look for themselves.

theres a slight chance that when they find not only the file sharing, but all the other remote control and hack software that they'll write up a report the the machine appears to have been compromised. That could give you an out, but it's a longshot.

Otherwise beg forgiveness, grab your ankles and hope they use lube.

I don't know: i thought it was only illegal to share copyrighted files. Not to have them, or even download them illegally (whether they could even prove that you had got them illegally is questionable). So long as you prove that you haven't shared the files (all p2p programs should give the option to not share files)... you should be okay.



Of course I could be totally wrong and you could be heading straight to jail. Either way..
