If this world actually worked like the world I've created in my head, he would have died after being shot by a 2-year-old who got their hands on a gun because their dad didn't think he needed to lock it up.

Heston revealed in 2002 that he had symptoms consistent with Alzheimer's disease

I suppose now would be as good a time as any to remind you to donate to Match It For Pratchett. For those of you who don't know, Terry Pratchett is a popular fantasy/satire author and created the famous Discworld series. He was recently diagnosed with alzheimer;s, and has donated $1 million to research for the disease. The website I've given you is trying to match his donation. I urge you all to give a bit, if not for Pratchett, than for Moses.

I love how celebrities can go from "don't care" to donating millions the second the diagnosis drops. All the sudden we all need to be Frost-ing aware when THEY have the condition. I think that's why I never had sympathy for Christopher Reeves. Didn't give a Shakespeare about crippies until he was one.

As for Moses, meh. Living 6 years with Alzheimer's and dying at 84...it's not really a surprise he kicked the bucket.

Is this going to happen every time I mention Terry Pratchett? Taco, a large part of why he's donated is because Alzheimer's research gets about 3% of the funding that cancer does, even though it affects about the same number of people.

I've had many loved ones die from cancer, so up yours.

It's the AIDS that gets too much funding, anyway.

Thanks for that, Sage.

I used to work with a guy who, when it came time to make the yearly charitable donations, would give money to NASA.

I Shakespeare you not.

Now we all have someone to scorn.

Actually, other than the fact that NASA isn't a charity, that's not that bad an idea. If we can improve the technology, there's quite a bit we can get from space. Some of the planets and moons in our solar system, for example, have more than enough ice to solve the water crisis, although that won't be cost effective for a very long time, if ever.

Space is cool and all but I'm sure there's much better things we can do with the kind of money NASA blows. Think of how many schools or hospitals or cancer/Alzheimer's/douchbaggery studies could be funded with that kind of cash.

For the record, I like Terry Pratchett, but I'm not going to get suckered into suddenly pretending to give a Shakespeare about Alzheimer's just because he has is.

So you're saying Pratchett doesn't really care about a disease he has, and that any fan, including me, who follows his lead also doesn't care? I just don't get that. I admit I never donated to alzheimer's before, but I, and probably most other people, had always assumed enough people were studying it. Pratchett is raising awareness because it's not getting the funding it needs, something many don't realize. He's not trying to get famous by donating. He's using the fame he already has to help a cause. If you want to continue this debate, we should probaby do it in this thread rather than ruining this one.

So, to return to the topic at hand, I give you <a href='<a href='null'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6u76_KsEo4M</a>'>this.</a>
