Well, kids, I had my first experience with double entry today. Sure, I had read about it before, and I knew the basics, but when you actually get down to it, it's really different from what you expect.
Make no bones about it: double entry is really hard at first. No matter how much I tried, I couldn't get it to come right. The more I struggled, the more painful the whole process was.
Maybe it's because I'm inexperienced. Other people in the class were sliding through it effortlessly, but that's probably only because they've done it every day for the past 3 years. I guess you can get used to anything!
I don't know, right now it seems like the only people who would get any benefit out of double entry are the actual clients. I don't think anyone in my position could ever really learn to like it. Maybe I'll eventually get some satisfaction, even if it's only from a job well done.
I have to practice my double entry tonight. I bet it's going to take at least 3 hours to get the hang of it so that I feel like I could do it professionally. At least they gave me all the tools I'll need to get it right on my own.
We have a practical exam on Friday. I think I would prefer an oral!
Well, at least I'm getting paid to do it. The sick thing is, there are probably people out there who would do it for free!

Congrats! I hope this new career is rewarding.
What sort of certifications does one need to become a chartered accountant?

After today, I am convinced that certification in the traditional "Bedlam" sense is a requirement.

I never request double entry unless I'm working with a sloppy, loose accountant. Those are the worst; almost better to just spring for a young one with an airtight work ethic.

It's fun to charter an accountant
And sail the wide accountancy
To find, explore the funds offshore
And skirt the shoals of bankruptcy
It can be manly in insurance
We'll up your premium semi-anually
It's all tax-deductible
We're fairly incorruptible
We're sailing on the wide accountancy

What's funny is that I'm also taking Accounting for my MBA program this semester, and I had my own experience with double entry this weekend. My wife, who is pregnant, had to help me, though -- she's done quite a bit of it in the past.

Now is butt plug the official name of that product or is that its "street name"? On the packageing I'm not sure if butt plug, while accurate, would have the certain cache that the marketing people are looking for.
ON the other handjob butt bung has alliteration going for it.

I always thought they could better market buttplugs to puritanical homophobes if they billed them as sodomy protection.
