I almost died this morning. It was quite full-on. I was almost killed by my own fear because I hopped into the shower at this place I'm staying and there was a spider there. I know it's pathetic, I'd like to say it was huge but it was tiny. Anyway I fell out of the shower backwards and my head missed the towel rail by the tiniest of margins.

And it got me thinking about fear and how I used to fear the dark and monsters and Jesus and robbers, and I don't fear much these days but I am horribly arachnophobic and, pathetic though it seems I'm still totally frightened of the dentist. Which is another thing I had to do recently. A couple of weeks ago I went to the dentist, and it was full-on actually because I turned up and the old guy who I'd had for years, had retired, and sold his practise to a spider.
