I finally convinced myself to make the trip to the Florida State Fair to try the chocolate covered bacon.

I was surprised at how good chocolate covered bacon is. Unfortunately, I decided to try the bacon in the middle of Cracker Country, which is an area within the fairgrounds with historic buildings, trying to recreate early Florida life. The reason I say unfortunately is that instead of really focusing on the bacon, I was more entertained by the midget playing the violin.

 

  Midget or no midget, chocolate and bacon is an excellent combination. Apparently, it was just regular Hershey's chocolate they used. I would highly recommend trying this delicacy in the comfort of your own home. Midget musician optional.

I'll agree that's some good-looking bacon, (if a little on the froo-froo side).  On the other hand, Apples' bacon has the potential advantage of unlimited chocolate.  I'm thinking that the little tub o' chocolate they provide could be replaced with a new one, when you're half-way through the first piece of bacon.  So long as the refills are free, I'm going to the fair.

Ditder sent me a box of chocolate covered bacon a few months ago (bad, bad lesbian!) and at first, I thought it was nasty. That's because I had tried the bittersweet dark chocolate-dipped bacon. The milk chocolate-dipped bacon was quite awesome, and I have since taken to dipping my bacon in my Nesquick brand chocolate-themed beverage.

So were there lots of midgets with fiddles in old-timey Florida?  Like citrus-and-aligator leprechauns, or something?  Is that what convinced Ponce DeLeon that the fountain of youth was there?  How about Francisco Pizarro?  I don't even know if he ever went to Florida.  I just wanted to say Francisco Pizarro. 

It's kind of like when you get the names of Abe Vagoda or Earnest Borgnine in your head (intentionally, or otherwise).  You need to say them, and they're somehow inherently funny, whoever you choose to say it to doesn't aporeciate that fact.

 It was at the Florida State Fair, which is in Tampa. 

We discussed various ways that bacon dipped in chocolate could be improved. It was definitely best with milk chocolate-- dark chocolate would have been disgusting with it. My own personal opinion is that the bacon would be best crumbled up into the chocolate. I found that out while licking the remaining chocolate out and found a bacon crumble in it. Other suggestions were that it would taste best if the bacon was dipped, then allow the chocolate to harden around the bacon. 



Personally, I'm against that method because it's more fun watching people let chocolate ooze into their mouth from off a peice of bacon.

I think chocolate-covered bacon would be best if you take the bacon, lay it on a plate, and eat it separately from the chocolate. Entirely. Seperately.
