This Place Lame Thread #125678
A comedy conversation by BillSalamie | 11/04/2009 04:31 PM | 423 views
Yes, I'm an a-hole for saying this. I'm sure some variations of this same thing have been posted, but what the hell is up with this place? Is John personally trying to kill comedy? (yes, I am with this thread, I know)
I'm sorry, I know this is trite, lame, etc. I'm not attacking any Gabbers personally, it's more the format of the site, navigating through it. I don't know, it seems like more visual noise than comedy. Less is more, John.

If there were mahas I'd welcome you all to maha me for this, but Shakespearee.

I'm not saying I disagree, Bill, but this site is user driven. You want more comedy? Post more comedy. Invite funny friends. Put links to the things you do like on your facebook page, or use the Digg, Farq and StumbledUpon links to spread the love.

Ignore the people who suck, praise the people who don't and encourage the people who show potential with constructive advice.

John or Jeff or whatever his name is doesn't control the submissions - he only controls the format. And he's no dope. When he sees what people like, he formats to feature that (the page view counts, I'm sure, mean more to him than the orb count - his advertisers don't care about our rankings). So the more people you get to look at things you like, the more likely you are to see similar things featured prominently in the future.

Questionable? Maybe

Annoying? Slightly

Playing to the stupid? Perhaps

I could only guess, but I'd assume that by trapping people in a labrynth of nonsense links, the idea might be that people too stupid to function on the web might get stuck in a frustrating loop whereby they are exposed to more of the site. Not the kind of traffic I'd go after, but then again, I'm too damn lazy to make a site.

So far, I believe, Bill has a anti-ZUG domain reserved, and I think Frostsock has to take heart pills because he can't find the Live link button, if y'all cared enough to start a coalition to save/finish off ZUG.

I also think John should seriously look into creating a MySpace app. for people to post on their pages. Maybe just something that says what their rank is or is a constant link to their funniest post or something. It would bring the retards in, in droves.

Suggestions are always more helpful then rants.

For example, this thread makes me think of how cool negative clicks might be

I just wanted to point out that the above post wasn't from me. It was from a ZUGbot that BobJohnson wrote that posts the same thing under my name every time someone starts a ZuG SuckS thread.

Bill, I have the cure for what ails you.

That is why I spent hours creating a place that is better than ZuG.

I think this link will put you at ease

But that would only attract 14 year old idiots.

Oh yes, that's who we want to attract, the MySpace crowd.

We've got a load of Facebook people, and since Facebook is like Myspace for grown-ups, I have to agree that we don't want the Myspace crowd.

What Whistler said.

Seriously, if you have constructive criticism, we'd love to hear it -- making ZUG better is what ALL of us want.

We're seriously looking into adding a top nav link back to the "Everything" view, for those who have been asking for it.

Other ideas welcome. Especially if they don't involve screaming.

It's not you, it's me. Just forget I said anything. It was either this or I was going to imp Skippy and start a thread. The irony, obviously, is that my post was very Skippy-ish by itself.
I was suprised to see John post, by the way. Does he do that now or does he have a bat phone that alerts him to these types of threads.
KChiki and Shelle- you are both fantastic.
Whistler, you too, just much less attractive.

John has been posting more lately. It's weird...like, having a dad that traveled all the time, and then got a position at work where he could stay home. You're not used to having him "pop in".

Also,

There is all kinds of folks on MySpace, from lawyers, to activists, to lunatics. I haven't been to involved with it for a while, but it's quite a large variety and cluster of people, and I was merely saying that traffic-wise, it might help, even if it didn't help hoity-toity-wise.

It's an odd thing for me to grasp, how anyone would have such an informed opinion of something without having experience with it. It's kind of like a straight man saying, "No, I'd never go to that gay bar, nothing against those who might be in there, but the drinks are wretched... so I've heard."

I said it would attract retards by the way. So what if I enjoy laughing at retards. Others might too.

I've only been coming to ZUG for a couple months now but I really love the place and definitely want to see it flourish. And negative comments don't help that, like John said, every bit of constructive feedback helps improve ZUG, bitching doesn't.

When I discovered this place years ago I loved the whole feel of the place. John doing his thing. If felt amateurish, yet slick. Like Maddox. Who has stayed the same.

This whole corporate look and feel. It's like finding your local pub suddenly turned into a Wetherspoons (for British viewers) or a Walmart showing up in your town. You get the same people in, but the atmosphere changes.

It is a catch 22 situation, whatever you do will please some and disappoint others. Some will say that now evolving and changing makes it stale. The good thing is that John is still here and seems to want to listen to what we have to say, but I guess it is tough.

Still, it is up to us all to make the comedy, and make the site work.

I don't get all the fuss. How can improved formatting effect teh funny? I just think some people don't like change, no matter if it's for good or worse. Kinda like how some old people still think computers and the interwebs are childs toys invented by satan.
