Socks are not that good to use for masturbation, for one, what if you forget and put it on? For two, if you use a nice light weight spankerchief then you can just throw it against the wall where it will stick until you are ready to use it again.

On that note, some n00bs are like Frost socks, they get all sticky and nasty on the floor where you might step on them or worse put them on, and some n00bs are like spankerchiefs, they stay pleasantly out of the way until they're wanted.
