Your comments needed on new ZUG feature!
A comedy conversation by John Hargrave 128,123 71

We are developing a new feature that we're really excited about: ZUG Trophies.

The idea is to reward everyone for accomplishing certain goals while using ZUG Live, much like "Achievements" on the XBox.

We've put a lot of thought into these accomplishments, or "trophies," since we want to encourage only the goals that will make the site better.

Having said that, we'd love to hear your feedback BEFORE we develop this. Once it goes live, it will be more or less set in stone, so we need to be sure to get it right.

The document we've written is pretty dry, and I don't think does justice to how much fun this is going to be, so use your imagination. I really think this is going to make the site unbelievably addictive and fun.

Also, items in blue have not been officially decided -- we're hoping to get your ideas on those in a series of comedy challenges.

Take a look and give us your feedback in this thread. In particular, are there any good ZUG Trophy ideas we're missing?

Read the full document here!

I'm sure that certain people would appreciate a "Received a Warning Letter from Admin" trophy.

Are you going to backdate some of the users' trophies? Like, I'm not very funny now, but I used to be, and I've made a few threads that reached over 100 posts, but not recently. Just want to make sure I'm going to get credit for the last two years I've been putting myself out there for you'se.

Zugz from the Shadows - Lurked for 7 consecutive days and passed out zugz.

Bring back the Mahas - ## of posts made without receiving zugz.

Zug Life 4 Ever - Kept name on "Who's on ZUG" list for 24 consecutive hours. (or possibly "Screw my Job" for a title)

Just Enough to Sustain - received at least one zug a day for 30 days.

Prankster - submitted an article deemed by admin as a worthy prank.

Rankster - stayed somewhere in the ranking for 6 months, year, whatever.

Yankster - showed dem boobies!

Hankster - name is Hank.

Flankster - on the side.

Wankster - offend a Brit.

Dankster - I know those Canadians know about this one.

There must be a "Throws the Most Shakespeare at the Wall" trophy for the Liver who posts the most.

A "Seinfeld" award for the Thread with the least views, clickies and comments.

Sounds good, but what would stop people from writing a script that auto refreshes the site. I think this would end up being one of those trophies that doesn't matter because everyone has one (or more).

Um, most of us can barely get our keys in the ignition, much less use computers and the internet properly. Some could cheat, but I'm sure there'd be a way to watch exactly how they moved around the site anyways. If not, give them a trophy for going into that much effort to get a pixelated trophy under their name.

Are you going to make lower tiered awards? I saw the 1000 view ones, but what about the 500 and 100 view ones. Kind of like a Gold, Silver, Bronze award approach which would be similar to how the PS3 does it.

I looked and there's maybe 250-300 entries of all time that topped 1000 views, many of which were written by peeps (at least the ones as of late) who contribute nothing else to the conversations.

Almost all are because they were on the front page. So with that number, you're only rewarding many of the people who were "commissioned" for their stories (some of which, in my opinion, weren't that funny) and the occassional lucky Zugger who gets their stuff on the front page.

Almost everyone else who toils on the Zug Live page will get the shaft on that one. I'm just sayin'

Yes, and why don't we give everyone a trophy just for registering. Or for accidentally coming to the site when they meant to go to bug.com. Trophies for getting out of bed in the morning, or for logging in on the first try would be good, too. Oh! A trophy for spelling at least 50 percent of the words in a post would be great.

You Frost-ing idiots. I vote no. And no on retroactive trophies, either. Get busy and earn them the right way. You want more views on your Shakespearety threads? Try promoting them. Link them to your facebook page so both of your friends come here to see them.

And I don't like "Killer of Comedy" for creating an article that gets 10,000+ views. Killer of Comedy should be the badge for the person who makes the last post in 100 different threads. The badge for creating an article that gets 10,000+ views should be "Hit Man."

Meh, I'm not a big fan of trophies, but I do have a couple of genuine suggestions:

1. Bring back the funniest all time list in lieu of trophies. It encourages people to stick around and contribute better content in the long term rather than posting a zillion times (spray n' pray) to win a single month for a t-shirt.

2. Make it harder to write articles again. Didn't people have to submit and edit and beg back in the olden days? A lot of the "article" content that comes in now is clearly recycled and not very well executed or written.

3. Nega clickies. Maybe make the orb system "poor, meh, giggle, funny, hilarious" or something. Making everything positive is very soccermommy. There need to be some frowny faces up in this biznatch.

4. TIMESTAMPS. Jesus, nobody likes bumping a thread that's been dead for 48 hours.

How about a
Trophy-maker Trophy
for people who's ideas actually get used to make up the trophies.
You'll get more trophy suggestions by giving a trophy for it.

The Thread-Killer Trophy.

For someone who posts a no-click post at the end of any thread that falls out of the top 100 threads, in which all previous posts had clicks.

I agree with him on the aspects of the insta-get trophies, such as the signing up, giving/recieving first clickies.

But on the hole whole, I think it looks interesting.

It might also help keep the prunes from whining if you call them badges instead of trophies. Everyone bitching about it has never actually earned any XBox achievement points and doesn't understand the retarded compulsion to participate and strive for more useless points.

What you are all forgetting is, clickies didn't matter, orbs didn't matter, zugz don't matter, and trophies won't matter.

Frost it, I have already made up my own trophies for zug years ago. They include:
Gab gay with Declan (even though I'm not gay) 3X trophies
Get boobies in my email from Gabbettes in exchange for my penis pics 14X trophies
Get addicted to a game that somebody linked to on Gab* 1X trophy
Get someone else addicted to a game that I linked to on Gab** 1X trophy
Mouse over to avoid a disgusting and shocking picture*** 10000000000000X trophies

The list goes on, but you get the idea.

Oh there's another trophy, I will call it the Don't link because I'm lazy 1X trophy

If you really want a genuine way to cut down on the Shakespeare content and keep the boards fruitful, charge a cheap one-time fee to join. Like, $2. It will weed out the spammers and lameass high school kids.

Two bowls?

Nah, thats how begginers do it.

This is how the pro's do it.

I grab the gallon of milk, the whole box of Frosted Flakes, a huge mixing bowl, and one of those big ass wooden spoons. And that way I wont have to get back up untill either I have to poop or untill I go into diabetic shock.

And by Frosted Flakes I mean Super Sugar Smacks.

I like the general idea, but I think some of the trophies are like, too easy and sort of de-values them as a whole. Like "Make a first thread". How are old time members supposed to get that trophy? Will it count the first thread made after the system is put in place?

I also can't say I think being able to win the same trophy multiple times is gunna be that great either. I can just stay logged in on my laptop for a month and win the 24 consecutive hours trophy 30 times. Perhaps have different levels, as someone else mentioned. Like, a bronze for starting 50 threads, a silver for starting 250 threads, a gold for 1000 and a platinum for 10,000 or something like that.

If this does get implemented though, I have 2 ideas.

Stalker: Has viewed X threads. (should be a lot)
I haz this many: Number of t-shirts won
