College Humor Prank Wars: Amir Strikes From Above

A mile above the Earth, with wind pulling at his cheeks and a strange man strapped to his back, Streeter Seidell pulls his ripcord. Nothing happens. In freefall, Streeter begins to panic.

Streeter pulls fake ripcord, contemplates own death.

"I'm thinking, number one: oh [bleep], I broke it, so this could be bad." Streeter explains on Jimmy Kimmel Live: "In the back of my head, I'm thinking, maybe something's going down here." No pun intended.

This is the 8th in a series of pranks between Streeter and his CollegeHumor co-worker Amir Blumenfeld. It's been over eight months since we saw Streeter prank Amir, longer than it took to plan and execute their first six pranks. Why the delay? For one thing, both combatants are expecting it now. "It's getting to the point where you really have to wait for the other person to let their guard down," said Amir in an interview with ZUG this August. Even after eight months, why one would ever jump out of a plane while entrenched in a prank war baffles me.

The first time this prank was attempted it ended tragically, with the death of Icarus. But then, technology's come a long way since wax and feathers.

The other reason the pranks are taking longer is that they're getting bigger. "There's a building pressure to make the next one bigger than the last," said Amir on Jimmy Kimmel. And to help, they've now got funding. Axe (aka "douche cologne") has entered the world of corporate pranks, launching a viral marketing website and funding both Streeter and now Amir, who calls them "the eccentric billionaire puppet masters funding this." Though Axe's involvement hasn't made the pranks any sexier, it has made the sky the limit for prank ideas. And Amir took it to the limit.

Not only will Axe allow you to skip your weekly shower, you can use it to gel your hair and starch your shirt collars!

What really makes this prank is Duncan, the skydiving instructor attached to Streeter. Even after deploying the actual parachute, he continues the prank, sending both of them spiraling downward. "How much do you weigh?" he shouts. "Can you swim?" Streeter's panicked reply: "No!" A bold move: in a prank that could literally scare the Shakespeare out of you, Duncan's right in the line of fire.

This is also the picture Amir used on his fake ID.

In the end, they both make it to the ground without incident. Now (or eight months from now), it's Amir's turn to sweat.

Really?

Really?

Do you really believe that this is anything but scripted? They are, after all, on MTV.

Whether the CollegeHumor prank wars are scripted is the great debate.

What convinced me they were not scripted was Amir's audition tape. On the "reveal," he looks so genuinely embarrassed -- and turns so red -- that I had a hard time believing he was that good of an actor. (Though he is a good actor, as anyone who's seen the "Jake and Amir" videos knows.)

I would be curious to hear more thoughts on the subject, though. (And great article, Colin!)

Honestly, it's sad to say that I don't care if its scripted. It's still funny as hell. Granted, unscripted random comedy is always better. All I know is, have the fear of heights that I do, I would have Shakespeare my pants, even if I KNEW what was going to happen. So in reality, the prank would be on whoever decided to make me jump out of the plane. I'd just make sure I carpooled with them and I was the one that drove.

4 orbs for the Icarus comparison.

I've been skydiving. It was good times. The instructor tried to make me nervous, but I saw through his tough facade, and saw the caring man who lurked beneath.

That, and if I was going down, I fully intended to take him with me.
