World's Craziest Christmas Prank

It appears some daredevil Cambridge University students climbed up the dreaming spires of King's College Chapel, and placed a giant Santa hat on each of the four 150-foot spires.

Climbed.

150-foot towers.

Four of them.

With no safety net.

How the red circles got there is still a mystery

This takes pranking to a new level (a 150-foot level, to be exact). Anyone who thinks it's fun to scramble up 500 year-old walls (without using ropes) just to place hats on them is clinically insane. Imagine spending thousands of dollars to go to an elite university like Cambridge, just to become a big red splat stain outside the college chapel doors.

Now was not a good time for Pete to realise he had left the oven on

Taking credit for the prank were members of the intrepid "Night Climbers," a secret group who have been quietly scaling tall buildings since the 1930's [read their blog here]. It can get pretty boring drinking tea all day, treading the boards at Footlights expecting to be the next Hugh Laurie, and running the British government in about 25 years time. These poor Cambridge students need the adrenaline rush.

It was reported that a Physics Nobel Laureate and world expert on aeronautics, Oxford University Professor I M St. Nicholas debunked the mystery immediately by saying "It was obviously a prank at King's College Chapel, there is no way Mr. Claus would deliver presents there, as everyone in the UK knows Cambridge students are very naughty boys and girls".

Note the resemblance to the 1997 pumpkin prank at Cornell University, where a pumpkin was found impaled on the 173-foot McGraw Tower:

There was one critical difference between the pranks: no one thinks the Cornell students climbed the tower. Proving once and for all that Cambridge University students are out of their freaking minds.
