Hello,

I wanted to talk to someone from the library about how someone can incorporate a private residence into a Seattle Public Library branch.

Any info would be appreciated!

Subject: Library Question - [Question #5112695]

Hello George,

Thank you for contacting us with your question. I'm not sure that I completely understand what information you're looking for.

If you are asking about how to make a contribution to the library of personal property, you will want to work with the Seattle Public Library Foundation.

If you have any questions about fund-raising efforts or would like to make a donation, please contact the Foundation office.

If this is not the type of information that you are looking for, please reply to this message and let us know what it is you would like to do.

Thank you,
Billy

Hello Billy,

Thank you for your prompt reply! I guess I didn't explain properly. I have a two-bedroom apartment in a desirable location in Ballard. I am looking to get a little help on my rent and am hoping I can incorporate at least one of my bedrooms into a public library that anyone could use!

I have many books and printed documents that I've never seen at any branch of the Seattle Public Library. I am also willing to share some of my own writings as long as visitors sign a legal document promising not to make fun of me while visiting the George B. Zip Branch of the Seattle Public Library system.

I am willing to have extended visiting hours and let people look at my comic books and VHS tapes, as well as all of my novels. I might keep some of the novellas I've collected in my bedroom for personal use. That is undecided. I am open to suggestions. I've been working on a design layout of what my apartment would look like as a Seattle Public Library:

About myself: I like to watch TV (no swearing), play with my Sega Dreamcast and eat nachos (very little cheese.) I love to help! I am not familiar with the Dewey Decimal system but I have heard of it and am willing to look it up and learn more if we take the next step. At launch it's possible I will just alphabetize everything, though, because that makes more sense. I hope that's OK.

I have discussed this with my landlord and he was dismissive and belligerent, but I imagine with the support of the city he will have no choice but to take us seriously.

I know this idea might seem out there but I spend my free time trying to think of ways to help the community. I love my apartment and this city and am excited about the idea of combining them!

Thanks again for your attention in this matter. Let's make this dream come true!

Hello Billy!

I hope you are doing well. It has been two weeks and I haven't heard
back from you, so I just wanted to check in and see if you have an
answer for me!

Best to you and your family,

George

Any prank e-mail that includes the phrase "Dewey Decimal System" will get a laugh out of me.

Nice work, George. Featured live on the homepage today!
