How To: Remap Your Keyboard
A video by Dave Goldberg 1,458 13

Create absolute chaos on someone's computer by switching around all their keyboard functions. Suddenly the Enter buttons means Space and the Space button means Backspace.

You Will Need:

A PC Computer

Instructions:
1. Download and install a key remapper
2. Open up the key remapper and select New at the top of the toolbar.
3. Select the key you would like to remap by typing it in to the box or selecting from the menu below.
4. Click next.
5. Either disable the key completely or choose a new function for the key by selecting one from the menu.
6. Click finish.

You'll know this prank worked when you hear your victim screaming out of frustration. See how long it takes your victim to figure out that the "G" button is now actually the f‚...“Zf‚ button.

If you're doing this in a workplace this next part's very important, hence the caps. UNLESS YOU ARE ABLE TO GET ON THE VICTIMS COMPUTER UNDER THEIR USER ACCOUNT, INSTALLING A MALICIOUS/UNSUPPORTED PROGRAM UNDER YOUR ACCOUNT WILL LEAVE EVIDENCE THAT YOU WERE ON THE OTHER PERSONS COMPUTER!!!!!!1!111ELEVENTY

Even if you can erase your tracks on the computer, there are server logs that can be pulled as well. That could lead to all sorts of problems up to and including termination, if your victim is a dick or your IT staff are Emersons, and let's face it, this would probably be the reason you are considering this prank. Is a very, very, verrrrry stupid prank worth it?

"But Cyco?", you ask, "I really like this stupid idea and must do it because pranking is teh awesome! Is there a better way"

There is but it involves....work. OMFG! Right? If you wanted to work, you'd be doing that instead of stupid pranks. Hear me out though.

You could actually do the registry edits manually, which works even better because if you have the rights you can use remote registry from your own computer and you won't have to sneak around trying to install a Frost-ing program on the other computer. Here's a well written explanation on how to do it.

This is better for several reasons.

1) Remote registry is, to my knowledge, not tracked or even has the ability to be tracked, so there's some anonymity.

B) You can uninstall the key remapping program with your mouse and a little knowledge. How are you going to edit the registry with a Frosted up keyboard? Maybe you can use the software keyboard in the Windows Accessories but if your victim even knows about that it's still going to be a real pain in the ass to fix.

#) Doing some work on a prank instead of lazily downloading some program makes the prank more worth it. People appreciate the value of hard work, even if that work is put to use on a stupid prank.

Blue) Even if you Frost up, you'll probably break the registry which will require the victims computer to be reimaged, causing them some downtime.

Of course if the words "remote registry" made you go "Wha?" this prank might not be for you.

We had a prankster remove and rearrange the keys on a keyboard here in the office for someone's birthday. Great idea until they broke two of the keys so that now they don't work at all.

Please tell me you bent them over your knee and whipped them with a strand of Cat5. That's the image I have in my head right now and it is hawwwwwt. I'll be back in 10, I have to go to the bathroom, yeah that's it, the bathroom.

Well, yeah....what did you think I was talking about? If they can't stand up to a little prying then they shouldn't be on my keyboard.

There are a lot of words in this thread and not very much yellow, so I'm going to tell you another way to drive your co-workers crazy.

Bring a fife to work and play it whenever things are slow, preferably in the uper registers. Try to avoid playing anything they might recognize or enjoy.

Hilarity will ensue. You know, if you consider getting a beating in the parking lot hilarious.
