Who's the funniest person on the Web?
 In conjunction with the South by Southwest Interactive Festival, ZUG.com is holding the Funniest Person on the Web contest, to be awarded at this year's festival (March 12-16, 2010 in Austin, Texas)!
We're looking for the person who made the Web community laugh the most in 2009. Based on nominations from our users, we have narrowed the field to these finalists:
1) Jeff Rubin, Executive Editor for the insanely popular CollegeHumor.com. Jeff oversees the writing for one of the top humor sites on the Web, also hosting CollegeHumor's original videogame series Bleep Bloop. [Read our interview here.]
2) Kris Wilson, creator of the wildly popular webcomic Cyanide and Happiness. Kris, who now co-writes the strip with three other writer/artists, has built C&H into one of the Web's most-read webcomics, and has recently branched into animated shorts as well. [Read our interview here.]
 3) Mark Malkoff, filmmaker, comedian, and proprietor of the incredibly popular MarkMalkoff.com. Mark has become an Internet viral sensation with his real-world stunts like living in an IKEA showroom for 30 days, or getting strangers to carry him across New York by piggyback. 4) Rob C0ckerham, prankster and the genius behind the madly popular Coleridgeeyed.com, is one of the Web's founding fathers of comedy, pumping out a continual stream of real-life pranks, experiments, and inventions. In 2009, he built a time machine and harrassed a giant pickle. [Read our interview here.]
We'll be doing interviews with each of these comedy pioneers over the next two weeks. In the meantime, we urge you to check out their sites and vote for your favorite right here.
UPDATE: Thousands of votes were cast, and the results were incredibly close -- but at the end of the day, it was Kris Wilson of Cyanide and Happiness who was the crowd favorite! We had a gala ceremony at SXSW, including presenting Kris with an enormous trophy filled with nacho cheese.
And then we broke out the chips, and ate nachos from his trophy.

Excuse me, 1 through 3 got dropped. What was the point of voting if the entries were just going to be evaluated and decided 100% independently anyway?

As I understood it, the only reason to vote for a nomination was that the people who submitted the top three nominations get Amazon Gift Cards. John said up front that they weren't going to choose the people on the panel based on the number of votes.
And really, why get worked up about it anyway? There were a total of what, 37 votes (in a row!) for the whole contest? Meh.
Now if Bill the Squirrel doesn't get an Amazon gift card for nominating Mung, then I'll be right there with you calling shenanigans.
