So...was it a compliment?
A comedy conversation

The other day, my co-worker said, "You look good for your age. I'd guess you were in your early 40s." Um, yeah. I'm 44! Thanks.
Of course, this is also the guy who said his wife is a very jealous woman, but she's not jealous since they moved to Maine from Miami, because there are "no hot women in Maine".
On the other hand, another male co-worker overheard me telling someone that I felt fat since I'd gained so much weight. He said, "It's not fat! It's...fun!"

It was a compliment. If it wasn't a compliment they might have said something like: "You'd look good for your age if you looked completely different."
I used to tell my ex-wife things like that during our divorce proceedings. Millie looks much better than she did, therefore it was a compliment.
I like my logic nice and round.

Men are simple-minded Millie, but I'm sure you knew that already. They tried to offer a sincere compliment, but as women who rationalize sometimes we overthink things (Oh, so I'm only pretty today? What about the other 6 days this week?!)
Take it in stride. You's a sexy bitch. We have the pictures to prove it.

I think most men will agree with me on this:
If we say something and it can be taken two ways and one of those ways pisses you off, we meant it the other way.

Aw, BIG, you're so sweet.
I think Ruben, (who gave the back-handed compliment) was doing that thing some guys do, where they tear you down a little bit, while they're giving you a compliment. They understand the psychology of women. We are insecure about our looks so they know if they kind of insult us but also compliment us, it intrigues us. Women are Frosted up.
The guy who said I was "fun"? Yeah, he's always making comments like that. He's very creep looking and scary--he only has about two teeth in his mouth.

This is what I know about women: No matter what a man says, we will usually find a way to twist it around into a negative. That is why you must always be very careful about what you say. Unfortunately, most men are dumb and unaware of the subtleties of the psyches of women.
The men who can figure this out are the ones who will succeed with women.
Having said all that, though, how in the Frost is telling me I look my age a compliment? It's more like a statement. I like I could have said to him, "Yeah, you have a Venezuelan accent." Or, "You look like you're about 6'4"." I mean, what's the point?

"You look good for your age," is about as much of a compliment as "You're pretty smart for a gentle snowflake."
"It's not fat, it's fun," acknowledges that there is an "it" to be categorized. A better response to a woman's comment about her own weight gain is a quizzical expression, perhaps accompanied by a "What?" Deny, deny, deny. Unless you prefer your hand.

My hand NEVER twists what I say into something negative. So yeah ... it's winning in that department.
Never makes me sleep in the wet spot, either.
Come to think of it, it's usually pretty helpful when I've got a persnickity booger to deal with. My wife? Not so much.
Game. Set. Match.

So...was it a compliment?
Some guy-to-woman translations:
Male: "Good morning."
Translation: "I would like to touch your breasts and drool on your stomach."
Male: "Do you have that in walnut?"
Translation: "I would like to touch your breasts and drool on your stomach."
Male: "I know it's bleeding. My t-shirt wasn't red this morning."
Translation: "I would like to touch your breasts and drool on your stomach."
Male: "I bet you were something before electricity."
Translation: "I would like to touch your breasts and drool on your stomach."
