The cord that brings electricity to my laptop is making crackling noises whenever it moves. It was bent at a pretty severe 90 degree angle where it plugs in to the computer, and when I tried to stretch it out it made a LOT of popping noises.

Shakespeare! Thank goodness for auto-recovery. Right as I finished typing that last paragraph, there was a loud crackle and then my computer shut itself off.

Upon inspection (after unplugging it from the power brick) the cord has a big hole in the insulation and I can see the wires inside.

Guess who is going to go buy herself a new laptop this weekend?

I am so Frost-ing tired of this cheap piece of Shakespeare failing on me. First the DVD drive, then the goddamn hard drive, then it started refusing to come out of hibernation. Now this.

I currently have 22% battery life left.

What would you do if you were going to be without teh internets for an extended length of time? It's sunny out and I've heard rumors that the out-of-doors place is nice, on occasion. I'm pretty sure not many of you here can speak from experience on that though. I am ALMOST considering going over and logging on to Spicey's Mac, but I'm ascared that Al might eat me if I turn to the dark side.

So, literotica or tmz? You guys decide!

17% remaining. I may have no choice other than to start packing for our move next Saturday. Frost, this is going to suck balls.

Do any of you out there in the bushes happen to have a power cord?

NO! Don't do it my friend! El Mac es too sexy!

Have you decided on what to get? I recommended an Asus EEE PC netbook if you don't need a lot of processing power. I can get 6-8 hours on a full charge on mine.

What kind of computer and what's the power requirements? You can usually find it on the underside of the laptop. Look for something like 16V --- 2.20A. Unless you just need a cord to go from the wall to the power brick, I should have a bunch of them that I can steal from work.

Hey, if you really do decide to traShakespeare and get a new one, give it to/sell for cheap to me. I have 3 broken laptops (IBM, Dell, and HP) and it's bound to have the parts I need to fix one of them.

What model of IBM do you have? I'm processing a lot of crapped out obsolete IBM laptops today, and I might be able to get something you can use. Shoot me an email (in profile) if you want to take this off the boards.

I promise not to stalk you. I'm too fat to stalk anyone.

Gah! Spicey came home and wrapped electrical tape around the cord, but it still wouldn't work. He said he'll order a new power brick tonight, but since I'm impatient, I'll buy a new laptop tomorrow so I don't have to wait for the stupid cord to come in the mail. I've been planning to get a new computer soon anyway. This just expedited the purchase. When the cord comes, the old laptop will be for little Michigan to use for school.

Thanks for the offer Cyco, but I'm good.

I'm using Spicey's work laptop right now. Because no one gave me any advice what to watch before my battery died, I ended up bowling on pogo until it blacked out mid-screen. Then I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening packing up all my glassware in the dining room.

It sure did suck, being productive. I'm going to slack off all day tomorrow to make up for it.

Was the old one a Compaq? I went through the exact same progression with mine (DVD drive failed, then hard disk, hibernation problem, power connector came loose). I would still recommended an EEE PC if you mostly do stuff on the web.

Taco - the offer still stands, let me know what model of IBM you have and what parts you may need and I'll see what I can get. Most of the stuff I have is old, but I get the occasional newer laptop that needs to be scrapped. The state just throws them out so I'm more than happy to pick one off the scrap heap and send you what you need. Besides, I've been stealing garbage picking and selling the state's old scrap (mostly RAM) for years. I figure that I'm putting it to better use than they are.

Shakespeare, in additional to what I emailed you about, if you happen to find a sound card for the same model I haven't ever had a working one of those in there either. But the sounds card is secondary to the power supply.

Think what you want, that kitten was getting euthanized anyway. It really had a birth defect, it wasn't an excuse I made up. And I didn't throw it in the pool, it fell into it on its own, and what I did was walk away when I saw it the there.

I've had cats before that swam with me, so it's not a question that I was convinced it would drown. And seriously, if I was really the mother-Froster you want to paint me to be, I would've bent over, grabbed the thing and held it under water to make sure it drowned. Walking away may not have been the nicest thing to do, but it still had a chance to get out of there. And if it would've made it, it would've benefited from 6 more days before I got it to the vet to put and end to its life.

So for you to make the comparison, must I deduce you've tried both?

Replace "deformed kitten" with "downs syndrome 3 year old" and see how the court takes your status of "well it's not like I held the kid down, I mean, I've seen three year olds swim before..." Yeah yeah a cat's not a human but you're a dickbag. You're scum. Face it.

I love cats (and their vomit) and that story about drowning a cat made me extremely sad.

I think we should hold this guy underwater until he drowns. Or sees Jesus and is sorry for his actions.

...whichever comes first!

With me, I'd say it's 50-50 (loving/hating cats, but being a douchebag works as well). My cats can be very sweet and I love to hear them purr. I don't love to see one wander into my room, squat on my bed-cot (this was a few years ago) and decorate it with intestinal distress while making a sound like someone punching tapioco pudding in a boot.

I also don't like to hear them meowing when I'm trying to sleep, don't particularly enjoy stepping in their puke, don't have a ball cleaning their litter boxes (or picking up the turds that missed).

50-50. Actually, the more I think about it... 30/70.

Ok, fine. 20/110.

I would really like to live someplace that is cat-free, honestly.

That is ridiculously preposterous. I have been trained in the nuances of logging in and logging off of computers and web sites, and using multiple computers so I only leave a jag-ged ISP trail.

This is how I have been able to spend countless hours at work giggling to LOLcats and LOLdogs. And then spend my days off watching "Gigantic black Coleridges seeking crazy cracker women to break bread with" without getting caught.

P.S. If you keep coming here on his computer, you will gum up his keys.
