Once upon a time, my fiance and our kids were out for the day doing Norman Rockwell family type things. We found ourselves feeding the ducks at the pond. As we came around one bend, one little yellow ducky was "cheeep cheeep cheeep" ing along, all alone. Clearly he had been abandoned by his mother duck.

The children clearly wouldn't let me leave him, especially now that the gimpy little cherub had let us hold it and pet it and squeeze it and call it Fred.

I have a friend who has a lot of animals - mostly cats and dogs - so obviously this was the right home for a (presumably defective) baby duck, right? You see where I'm going with this?

Yes. She took the duck, and in three days, he died for no apparent reason. Two months later, my house burned down and two weeks after that, my fiance revealed to me that he had a bankruptcy and a foreclosure and while we were on the verge of relationship collapse he left me because he didn't want to fix the brakes on my car.

At my cottage 2 years ago there was a family of ducks. We're at the dock feeding them. I suggest we leave a break trail into the oven, then we have dinner, and they will already be stuffed. One of my friends instead decides to try to catch the duck.

All we hear is footsteps and we turn around to see him jump off the dock and on top of the duck. They wrestle for a few seconds, and then the duck escapes and flies away. And then we all starved to death.
