There's a lot of untapped talent out there. For my most recent prank, I wanted to tap some of it. I wanted to tap it good.

Voiceover artist demonstrating talent (on several levels)

So I set up a voicemail number, then went to the "Talent Audition" section of Craigslist, posting an enticing ad that read:

National TV Commercial Seeks Voice Over Talent $$$$
Production company is seeking VOICE OVER TALENT for a national TV commercial.

We are looking for men and women who can do THREE DIFFERENT DIALECTS. Please have an acting audition piece prepared that you can do with THREE DIFFERENT DIALECTS. We are looking for accents of all types.

We're doing auditions in early July and shooting in mid-July.

For more information and to set up an audition please call: 415-XXX-XXXX

For those who are skilled in multiple accents, this gig almost sounds too good to be true. Which, of course, it was.

Here's the message that callers got when they phoned the number listed in the ad [click to listen]. It wasn't long before the voicemail box was completely full with audition messages. We narrowed them down to our eight finalists, and now you can vote on your favorite! Who's got the most talent? Listen and decide!

VOICEMAIL CONTESTANT #1 [click to listen]: Is this lady calling from the crazy farm? Did she go to the Devry School of fake British accents? I think she had trouble doing this "off the cuff."

VOICEMAIL CONTESTANT #2 [click to listen]: His European accent must come from a Europe that only exists in his mind. The French completely sold me, though, and the German accent made me fall in love. I think this guy would be making these voices at home even if he wasn't leaving them on voicemail.

VOICEMAIL CONTESTANT #3 [click to listen]: Okay, this guy is just mocking our ad. How dare he do that with his horrible dialects. NEXT!

VOICEMAIL CONTESTANT #4 [click to listen]: Most of the auditions we received were British or Southern, so it's nice to hear an Indian stereotype to break the monotony.

VOICEMAIL CONTESTANT #5 [click to listen]: This is like the Epcot Center of auditions. You can almost imagine yourself on the loading dock at the United Nations.

VOICEMAIL CONTESTANT #6 [click to listen]: Never underestimate the power of humor in an audition. This guy would make the shortlist just for the Woody Allen/Arnold Schwarzenegger combo alone.

VOICEMAIL CONTESTANT #7 [click to listen]: EPIC VOICEOVER FAIL!

VOICEMAIL CONTESTANT #8 [click to listen]: Supposing I were to tell you that everything you ever auditioned for was a lie? This guy would still rule.

With all this talent, it's hard for me to pick a winner. Who do you think left the best voicemail audition? Post your votes below!

Got an idea for our next Craigslist prank? Post it below! And if you're one of the voiceover artists featured in this prank, we'll link to your site -- let us know, and thanks for lending us your talent!

Without a doubt, contestant #6. I desperately want to see this guy "touching the shoulders."

I'm so embarrassed for #7! Gah! #8 and #6 are great.

This is why I will never consider Craig's list ads for anything serious. Nice job, Harmon!

I'm surprised I didn't see this ad, since I visit Craigslist every day. Was it under W4M or WW4M?

Anyway, my vote is for #6.

I love how #2 generalizes everyone he refers to. According to him, Americans are stupid, French are greedy, Germans are pompous...

My vote goes to Epcot man. His ability to flow seamlessly between accents would be perfect for your fake commercial.
