Two government public information terminals suddenly became useful this week, dispensing detailed instructions on reproduction, anatomy, and where you can find HOT SLUTS TONITE! Either that, or someone missed an 'L' when programming them.
Pubic Information Terminals are a lot more fun
The backstory is that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is trying to ban access to porn anywhere in the country, which is like the Minister for Trade deciding he'll eliminate greed. For the Jakartan government to get rid of porn, they'd have to smash every country in the computer with rocks, which would be unintentionally hilarious when someone found a rock that looked like a dick.
Yes, the government has ordered the country's Internet Service Providers to block all porn. The ISPs replied that officials should formalize its policy before they began to take steps towards blocking -- a wonderfully dense statement including "You have no idea what you're asking and we're going to make you find out," "This is going to be a spectacularly long and drawn-out process because we make most of our money through porn," and "Not a chance in hell."
Information just wants to be free, especially porn (though it does have a tendency to ask for your credit card number), and the government couldn't even keep filth off their own screens in their own building. Also: the media center is the absolute best place for embarrassing governmental mistakes! Journalists enjoyed fully fifteen minutes of hardcore action before the official computer experts could stop them, and that was only because they switched the system off entirely. Yes, that's the level of expertise that should drive internet policy!
