Recently, a holiday hoax went viral, with the story of an angrily alcoholic ex-employee rewiring British department store Harrod's holiday lights to curse out the entire population of London.

Though it is a good message for the holiday crowds
But the real prank? The story itself was a fake, posted by The Poke and taken up by dozens of other sites, despite how The Poke is to real news reporting what ZUG is to taking things seriously. Bloggers aplenty proved every single thing proper journalists have been saying about them, publishing the photo as real, despite how:
a) faking photos and
b) writing swear words on any subject
are the Internet's number one and two skills.
Which is presumably why it was so easily believed. For thousands of people online, many of them arguing about PS3-Xbox battles as if it were a matter of life and death, writing "F$%* OFF" is the very first thing they'd do with publicly viewable technology, too.
