We're not saying that Facebook is a ridiculously insecure service and probably the worst place to put your personal information outside of a Nigerian photocopier. Because that's a given. What we are saying is that when properly used, Facebook is hilarious.
Oli Beale and Alex Holder, creative partners at Wieden & Kennedy Integrated Advertising, pranked thousands of people in social media with a prank. The original prank is entirely possible: you save your friend's Facebook images, alter them, upload them into your own account, then re-tag the friend in the image.

The result is hilarious and, for W & K, a wildfire viral success. Because it's exactly what everyone who posts links to their friends would do if they had the patience. The images have now been seen by thousands -- almost none of whom know the prank itself is a prank.
The best bit is this turns a pretty good joke into the perfect Zen gag because no one's being hurt. No one has been rendered as a sloppering, greasy, child-menacing gombeen against their will, and no one will force Facebook to remove any offending images, so you have the beautifully constructed shell of humor spreading laughter across the web without containing any real malice. It's the cruel Photoshopping equivalent of a Faberge Egg.
Purists object to these corporate pranks, but we say they're funny, well-made, and infinitely better than goddamn jingles. Keep them coming!
