Workplace Prank: RATS!
A comedy article

Anyone who's ever worked in an office knows that the worst part is having to share a refrigerator with your co-workers. For some reason, office refrigerators usually become a wasteland of forgotten food. Festering dairy products, smelly celery, and mystery bags filled with hairy fruit: it's a Holocaust of leftovers.

The only worse thing than the refrigerators is the passive-aggressive notes that some employees leave on the refrigerator, reminding everyone to clean it out. They don't realize that the food fragments inside a workplace fridge are like orphaned children: no one's coming back to reclaim them.
This gave us an idea for a new interactive prank: a fake note that you can print out and anonymously hang on your own workplace refrigerator. And unlike your co-worker's whiny note, this one will actually motivate people to clean out the refrigerator.

To give you added incentive, we're offering a $25 Amazon gift card to the first person who hangs it up in their workplace, then posts a photo of it that makes us laugh. Maybe someone tries to correct the spelling. Maybe a companywide email goes out about the rodent problem. You can even edit the sign -- we just want to see funny photos of this prank in the wild.
Click here to print, then post your photo below. We'll accept entries through next Thursday, September 15, 2011, but the first photo to make us laugh wins the $25 Amazon gift card. Because you can't spell HILARITY without R-A-T.
Happy ratting!

This article makes me sad I work at home. Can I post it on my neighbor's fridge and see how it goes?
By the way, nice job on the spelling. That will defanitely get a reaction in many places. Hell, I wanted to correct it, too.

It actually reads like all of our other signs. In fact, It inspired me to write a haiku:
Signs at my workplace
MS Word, red rivers run
Landscape, bold, print, tape.

Awesome. You guys MUST report back on what happens to the signs, and the general reaction of the office.

At my place of business, the majority of the staff that use the break room are our fine Latino cousins. As a result, all of the notices in the break room are in Spanish and English, or just in Spanish. So I pasted your text into Google Translate and made a new sign:

As I was taping it to the fridge, one of the senoras, Maria, says, "Thees true? You see a raton?" Then she points at Speedy Gonzales and says, "No, ees choking! You always making chokes! Haha. Oh, you write the spanish no good."
I love Google translate.

The sign was removed before I got in today, but a few people got to see it. Lulz were had by the few I know. Others were not as amused.
Something about living in the bible belt sucks the humor out of people. A few even thought we might be exposed to bubonic plague. We said nothing to discourage this line of thought.
The fridges were much cleaner though!

I can't do this at work as I'm already known as "the crazy rat lady".
Currently rocking a pink sleeping rat desktop image, and the following on my monitor stand: 1 large gray rubber rat; 1 furry rodent microwaveable warmer; 2 differing sized Remy figurines.

Note how the misspelled word had been violently obliterated from existence
Yet they didn't correct "plauge" or "refridgerator." Passive-aggressive moron.
You should write back and point that out, as well as the fact that she uses too much punctuation. Also that the contraction of "you all" is y'all (not ya'll.)

Brad - I hope you go back and circle where that moron wrote "write" and then put up something about considering letting the rats win.

Well, to be honest, ALL the people who submitted photos made us laugh. We offered the prize to the FIRST one who made us laugh, so Piemaster does get the worm after all.
And by "worm" I mean "$25 Amazon gift certificate."
Congratulations, and thanks to all of you who helped out. We'd still love to see more photos of people hanging this sign in their break rooms -- continue to post them below!
