Workplace Prank: More Ridiculous Safety Warnings

It doesn't matter where you work, there are going to be emergency signs hanging somewhere. Whether it's a simple fire evacuation map crudely made using the rectangle tool in MSPaint, or the elaborate and terrifying scenes of crushed stick-figures and silhouette body parts in various states of distress that litter the walls of a factory, workplace safety signs are ubiquitous.

There's probably at least one sign in your workplace with instructions or a dire warning about how you should compose yourself in the event of an emergency. This could be troubling for someone who works at a company that makes these signs and finds themselves in the emergency-sign-showroom during an actual emergency.

Some of these signs are required by the government, or by insurers, and many organizations have someone in charge of safety. Sometimes these "safety officers" are assigned the task simply because they were the only person in the office who didn't have an extra duty to weigh down their soul, but other times they are over-zealous worriers who use their position as a hanger of signs to feed their insatiable lust for relevancy.

Emergencies will happen, it's just a fact, and no business wants to be the one business that didn't adequately prepare for all future contingencies. Hurricanes could happen in Missouri, right? Better safe than sorry. But why aren't there signs for more urgent and frequent workplace emergencies? The forgotten emergencies, like the forgotten Korean War, are looming in the near and disastrous future.

That's why we've created a few printer-ready signs to hang about your office to make certain everything is under control. And to encourage you to put safety first, we'll award a $25 Amazon gift card to the funniest workplace photo featuring one of these signs. Just print it out, hang it up, snap a photo, and post it below by next Thursday, January 12, 2012.

Might we suggest using your new Amazon gift card to order a pair of these?

Coffee: The fuel business runs on.

Yesterday it was discovered that our coffee making apparatus has a problem and is only making a half pot of very strong coffee. I couldn't resist using this sign to express my feelings of java angst.

I started a Facebook Status Update prayer chain for you. I hope you're able to make it through these troubled times largely unscathed.

Styrofoam cups? A word of caution - don't put gasoline in those.

Does the styrofoam ruin the taste?

Fratberry:

Around here the styrofoam can only make the coffee taste better.

"Styrofoam cups? A word of caution - don't put gasoline in those- unless you're Brad."

Once again, Brad takes the winning entry!

If he saves up enough of these gift cards, he's going to have enough to BUY AMAZON.

Look for it in your email soon, Mr. Poynter.

I'd like to thank all the lazy bastards who can't be bothered to print something out and take a picture of it. Without you I couldn't have done it!

I'd play but taking pictures where I work is a really bad idea.

I'd play, but I work from home and it's just not realistic to buy a bunch of workstations and hire people just to prank them. Congrats Brad!
