A reminder about GAB
A comedy conversation

GAB is based on free speech. One of the problems of free speech is that people routinely say things that we don't like. There have been many things said on GAB which I've found offensive, but I see it as a necessary side effect. All in all, I am proud of our atmosphere of free speech, since it is unique to GAB among all other message boards.
This is not to say that we allow anarchy. Your freedom, as we all learned in our high school government class, stops at the next person's nose. We have found it necessary to step in from time to time (when people try to crash the server, for instance). But when to step in, and when to leave things alone? It's a judgment call. Hopefully we've erred on the side of non-moderation, since GAB's free speech is crucial to the environment that all of us enjoy.
I've given last night's events a lot of thought, and that is my stance once again. If we ban people for immature behavior, everybody will be gone (including me). If we delete conversations that people find offensive, then we turn into AOL.
Please use discretion when sharing information with people over the Internet, and please realize that the things you say on GAB do affect real-life people.

I agree with John. Banning people is not what Gab's about.
Frankly, what happened last night reflected on Kenshin far worse than banning him could. So I suggest that those who have decided not to post in his threads keep to their decision, and we get on with business as usual.
<business as usual>
A man goes to a fancy dress party with a naked woman on his back.
"What have you come as?" asks the host.
"A snail," he replies.
"But there's a naked woman on your back!"
"I know. That's Michelle."

Thanks John, I will keep what you said in mind. But I do not think that it is fair that no-one will post in my threads anymore, because pobble (Mary Poppins) insists that everyone should continue not posting in my threads. I understand that what I did might seem alittle over the top, but I didn't really do anything. She has decided to tell everyone making me look like a bad guy when in reality, I was just starting another thread like ALL of my other threads, this one however turned for the worse.
I new that I was not going to be banned because I didn't do anything, I just pretty much layed back watching the disaster unfold. And I knew the thread wouldn't be deleted because well... There's alread worse threads on the board.
This is THE last time Im gonna talk about this so read it carefully and please keep in mind, Im a good guy.

OK. It's your board, and you make the rules.
If, however, making light of a gabber being raped can't get you banned, then nothing should, and we can just drop all thought of it. I can't imagine anything more horrible.
And note that "making light of someone being raped" is not at all the same as "making a joke about a rape that never happened". Trixxie giving me a cyber reaming, as (s)he did once, is not the same, children.

Kenshin, try to be less of an idiot and people will treat you with a bit more respect. Hell, I like ya. You can come to my house and Frost my sister.
On the other hand, I don't know who went emailing John and Tim about banning Kenshin but they should probably take a big whiff of reality.
I'm sure between raising a newborn, looking for work, working on a house, working full time, etc, etc, etc, they have nothing better to do.
Jeeze. I thought I was a whiney bitch who took things too seriously.

"If, however, making light of a gabber being raped can't get you banned, then nothing should, and we can just drop all thought of it. I can't imagine anything more horrible."
Again, a reminder that Kenshin never mentioned about being raped. Pobble mentioned it after about three posts in that thread. I also recall Pobble mentioning about the rape back on Gab 1.0 or Stew. If it was such a personal issue that bothered her so much she should not have told anyone, much less a 17 year old kid on ICQ about it. I wont go so far as to blame Pobble but saying "Kenshin should be banned because he started yet another of his flame-bait threads and Pobble took it the wrong way" is no different than "ban Kenshin because I don't like him."
And if "making light of it" is a ban-worthy crime than Squeamish should have been banned based on his first post to that thread. Then where do we draw the line? Cancer isn't funny either but many of us have made cancer jokes. The holocaust isn't funny, is it? Lots of things "aren't funny."
This is a public comedy board. Anything mentioned here is fair game. If you don't want to take the risk that something will be made fun of, don't post it here. And perhaps it's not in the Gab Bylaws but perhaps it should be extended to "if you don't want something made fun of on Gab, don't tell any Gabbers about it on ICQ unless you're 100% sure you can trust them."
If Kenshin is a known idiot, what is the word for someone who trusts that known idiot with such "personal" information?

Not to put too fine a point on it, but imagine being put up at a females apartment, and being called a monster in public by her a week later, when you thought she was your friend... for reasons to this day that were never explained or justified, even when asked point blank on numerous occasions by several people. It took a really long time for anybody at all to come out for me in my defense, even when they *knew* I was getting Frosted over. They assumed, rightly, that I could take care of myself.
I think what Kenshin did was pretty loathsome, but actually Liz has posted the fact that she was raped long ago on Gab. That in no way exonerates him because he didn't know that. And not only that, approximately 100% of Gabbers rallied to her side. And really, they wouldn't have needed to. You don't know anybody as smart as her. Trust me.
So basically Gab did a bang-up job of policing itself, anyway. You just don't want to get in the middle of Shakespeare like this and it would be horrible to force John or Codeslave in the middle... I think everybody agrees it's better just to roll with the bullShakespeare and take your chances?

Nutbutter, Ford's transcription clearly showed that Kenshin's intent was to make Pobble sweat it out. It also showed his complete lack of concern and disregard for keeping private anything Pobble might have told him.
That's callous and mean to a degree that I find unforgivable.

Again, I'm not sticking up for Kenshin, I'm just mentioning that just because he's making fun of someone's tragedy (something a lot of us do...) is no reason to get him banned.
People want him banned because they don't like him, that's all. If not liking someone were a good enough reason to ban them I'd have a lot more free time and I'd get much more work done.

On the other hand, there are some days when I just cannot bear to get out of bed without putting on the angel wings, Dr. Schol's sandals, and marching on Washington to complain about the cost of rat milk.

Also, some clarification, weren't Hairless Bob and Hamhock banned from GAB?
Oh yeah, that's right. They pissed off John and Marilyn. Now I remember.

Hamhock threatened SkunkCarroll several times with physical violence in ways that sounded serious. I can understand banning for that.

Threatening with violence should get you banned, because it's a crime. John could be held liable otherwise.

I know I'll never get banned for that, because if you did that, you'd have to ban Peon too. And nobody wants to ban Peon until they can figure out who the hell he is.

i, too, would like to point out that there were "don't post in kenshin's threads" threads a good bit before all this with pobble happened. and even if there weren't, i don't recall pobble asking us not to post in his threads.

Pobble should never have trusted Kenshin. However, if you don't know enough to keep secrets by the age of 17, you deserve to have your underwear hooked over your ears in the locker room a few dozen times.
I'll hook your underwear over your ears if you can keep a secret. wink wink nudge nudge.

i'm much happier to hear that people wil ignore him more and more.
i'd be the great shining ball of happiness if he were hit by a bus.

Well, it seems going to bed early has afforded me the great loss of seeing the chaos that unfolded here last night.
I haven't opened up the threads and I haven't read the contents. I did however, read this thread.
That being said, I agree somewhat with what everyone has said on this subject. I learned the hard way (and not in a good hard sexual way) that anything you post here is fair game...........basically, if "...you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."
Lastly, Kenshin has now become the most popular poster on GAB........like him or loathe him, we all had a hand in that end result.

I do not think that it is fair that no-one will post in my threads anymore, because pobble (Mary Poppins) insists that everyone should continue not posting in my threads
What Pobble may want has no bearing on my decision to boycott your threads, Kennyshun.

I boycott Kenshin because he is evil, not because Pobble is Good. Although Pobble is a shining light in the Gab Universe.
Nutbutter, you threatening to punch me in the face, does not constitute a threat of violence. Violence has to do actual harm, and you bruising your knuckles slightly does not qualify.
