To Eric's Friends,
I'm sorry to have to tell you this way, but my husband, Eric was killed early Friday morning in a traffic accident. A truck ran a red light and hit his car, killing him probably instantly.
He aways enjoyed coming here and regularly told me stories of all of your daily antics. Thank you for being a bright spot in his life.
It's too bad you didn't know him personally. He was a truely fine man. Funny, intellegent, a great husband and provider. He was buried yesterday afternoon. The service was so packed there were people standing outside the church. The entire front of the church was literally covered with flowers. One of his friends came all the way from England to be here for the service.
Contacting some of his friends has been like therapy for me. I know he would have wanted me to let you guys know as well.
He will be greatly missed. I have a huge hole in my life that I don't know if I'll ever be able to fill. Hug someone you love today. You are not promised tomorrow.
I guess this will be the last post you get from our little farm. Live well.
- Dawn

First off, being that this is Gab I must say that if this is some sort of joke, it's not funny.
Now that that's out of the way...
I don't think it's a joke. I'm very sorry to hear this. Eric (Chicken Man) was a good guy and a funny Gabber. Sorry for your loss and my thoughts are with you and your family.
Thank you for letting us know.

I can't find what Chickenman used as a name most recently. The ---D part was added today.
If this is true, I'm terribly sorry. I hope it's just a very bad joke. I really do.
I'd rather be mad at him then have him gone.

With whom did he email communicate here? Did the wife send notices to the email address book list?

One of the voices is gone. They're not supposed to die. They are just voices, aren't they? We are all nothing but a gathering of whispers, until one is extinguished. Then maybe, for a time, we see there is much more.
This is a sad day.

Questions:
Did Chickens post primarily from work? If so, that would mean his wife is posting this from work, if the IP address is the same.
I tend to believe this is true, but given the nature of this place I'd like to be sure just so we don't all look like idiots.

The thread he started 9/11/01 may give some information on where he was by giving the news source he was using.

In re: alt transport... yeah. I know what you mean. I bike walk and take the subway/commuter rail/buses, but I live in a Nurba Narea so I'm lucky thataway... when you live in the boonies like Mr. Chickens I guess you have a harder time finding such things. Plus it's not like biking is real safe either (commuter cyclists have better accident stats than cars but still, if someone runs a red light and hits you, there's nothing you can do to avoid it)...
very sad.

I was waiting for the bus today and I saw a woman either fall out of a car or get hit by a car--I couldn't tell from the angle I was standing at. She was ok though--just got up and limped up to the car that she fell out of/was hit by.
And the other day I was on a double-decker bus that ran into a ladder on a tall maintenance truck. The ladder went through the top front window of the upper deck. Fortunately nobody was sitting in that particular seat.

How about a laugh out loud rating? Break it down to:
Made me smile
Made me chuckle
Made me laugh outloud
Made me pee myself
That way both quantity and quality may be tracked.

something more needs to be done in remembrance of eric than retiring the tool.
perhaps a day of no posting in his honour. or john post a tribute in his journal. chickens was an important part of the board and even though few of us knew him off the board, i feel we need to pay our respects as a community he was involved with.

Alright, I've been extra busy at work today and this is the first time I've seen this thread since this morning.
I haven't seen any proof otherwise as to this being false.
This really has ruined my day.
There's nothing like starting your Monday sleepy and teary-eyed.
I keep remembering that thread he started a short while ago about almost getting killed on his tractor and we all picked on him for driving a tractor. I'll remember that story fondly now.
Chickens, you were such a sweetheart. I will miss you very much. You were a great person and one of the smartest, funniest people here.
God, no, I'm crying again. I need to stop.
Anyway, this is a big deal to me and I'm a bit upset.
No, I'm a LOT upset. I can't accept this. This isn't supposed to happen to good people and not at such a young age.
This will be the first time we've lost one of our own.

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou are not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou'art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy'or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.
For those who don't know - John Donne, "Death be not proud".

This is how much Eric liked boobies.
I never mentioned this on GAB because I decided not to post it, but he did a decent Photoshop job of putting my headless boob photo together with one of my face photos, so there was the whole deal. I didn't really want to have that on the internet, but I praised him for the quality of his work. He even put in a colorful little background.
I wish I knew where that file was now.

Lack of bladder control?
Enjoyment of the warm sensation?
All of the above?

I just love your little fantansy, where your wife isn't dancing around the kitchen table with you life insurance check, and has your remains dumped in the wood chopper for chicken feed. Big funeral, standing room only, missed greatly. BWA HA HA HA.

Which expains why so many people have wondered if he was gay.
