The Money Prank

Several weeks later, I was reading Joshua Quittner's Wired article about Suck, in which he says that all the Young Web Professionals like myself are only in it for the money:

"Key to the Web Dream [is] the Quick Sell Off. Because the Dreamer asks: What good is being a pioneer if you can't make money fast while you're young enough to baste in the fat of life? ... for most of the tyros following their Web Dreams, money is definitely the goal. The idea of the Sell Off infuses the Web, a place that echoes with the footfalls of venture capitalists making their hasty exits. Just look at all the software guys who made a bundle off of their Web Dreams."

Joshua Quittner (I think)

And I thought: This is where we have gone wrong. Wired used to be an inspirational magazine about how we were going to change the world with technology; now it's about how we're going to get rich. I feel strongly that the Web has to become profitable to survive, but profit is not a license for greed.

That, I thought, will be the hook.
