Mall Santa #2
San Francisco Shopping Centre

This Santa was the opposite of the first one: an older man with very little padding in his suit. His beard hung lazily from his face, and his eyebrows looked like they had been applied with latex house paint.

When we asked him a tough question, he would laugh nervously, looking to his elven assistant for help.

John: What's been the most popular toy request this year?

Santa: (In a very world-weary tone) The most popular request for girls is the Barbie doll with colored hair, and the most popular for the boys is the Ninja game -- the Ninja 74, and the remote control cars.

John: The Ninja 74. Mmm-hmm.

Santa: Yes.

John: Now, you and the elves make all these toys at the North Pole.

Santa: Absolutely.

John: Even the new ones, like the Ninja 74.

Santa: We have all the ... uh ... knowledge at the North Pole on how to make them.

John: Now Santa, a lot of the video games nowadays are violent, sexual, and not appropriate for young kids. Why are you releasing this kind of game?

Santa: Oh, is Santa releasing them?

John: Well, you're making them, I assume, at the North Pole.

Santa: (Nervous laughter) Well, as far as the games go, we emphasize children's games and ... uh ... there are a lot of those games that the parents need to watch the children and make sure they don't turn them on. Like the Internet.

John: Yes, the Internet.

Santa: I think it's the parent's fault. The parents should tell the children not to look at them until a certain age.

John: Parents should take responsibility.

Santa: Absolutely. How can a child know what's right or wrong?

John: Well, you know, if you weren't releasing these games ...

Santa: (More nervous laughter)

John: Do you have multiple red suits, or just the one?

Santa: Oh, we have multiple red suits.

John: A whole closetful?

Santa: A whole closetful.
