ZUG Bugs

"Panic" will sit on a co-worker's machine until he or she starts a popular spreadsheet program (rhymes with "Tex-Bell"). It will act normal until your co-worker tries to do anything with it. Then it will pretend to scan his or her hard drive for naughty files, every once in a while "finding" one. When that's done, the program will quietly uninstall itself and put the normal spreadsheet program back in place. Before using this one, make sure your co-worker has the certain spreadsheet program installed (rhymes with "Flecks-Shell").

And look at this one! I can't believe you wrote such a thing!

Installation Instructions
NOTE: This software works on Windows 95 or Windows NT only. By using this software, you are agreeing to the provisions set forth in license.txt, included in the ZUG Bugs file.
  1. Download this file to a floppy disk.
  2. Sneak the floppy disk into a friend's disk drive.
  3. From your friend's computer, click the Start Menu, then click Run. Type a:\zugbug3.exe and hit Enter.
  4. The program will ask you where you want to unzip the files. Click Unzip. When it's done, click OK, then Close.
  5. Click the Start Menu again, then click Run. Type c:\zugbug3\install.exe and hit Enter.
  6. If everything went as planned, you will get a message asking you to type the name of the prankee, and then your own name. When it's installed, it will give you a success message. Click OK.
  7. Pop the disk out of the drive, then run like hell.
  8. E-mail us if you have problems.

De-installation Instructions
Leaving the program on the computer won't do any harm. It won't run again, it writes nothing to the registry, and it takes up only a megabyte of disk space. But if you're the obsessive-compulsive type, or your friend has threatened you with litigation:
  1. On your friend's computer, start up Windows Explorer. Usually this is on the Start Menu, under Programs.
  2. Single-click the folder named zugbug3.
  3. Delete it.
  4. Next, find your friend's backup copy of Excel. Choose Tools | Find | Files or Folders.
  5. Type excel.* and click Find Now. Wait for the computer to scan the hard drive.
  6. In the list of files that pop up, delete excel.exe (the one with the bug icon). Right-click the one called excel.zug, choose Rename, then type excel.exe and hit Enter.
